 | Love it! Feb 6, 2010 |
| I love being able to easily look at a passage using the NIV and The Message. | | | | Love this bible Feb 5, 2010 |
I apologize for the review being long but. . . . I like this bible because I am a fan of the message thanks to a friend. I wanted the best of both worlds, considering the NIV version is read alot at my church. When in bible study, I would read "The Message" version and I could fill eyes on me because my version was different. So, to ease the awkwardness, I bought this one, that way, I could compare and see the differences between the two versions. NIV is a contemparary style bible, while The Message is very raw and reminds me of conversation talk. If you have ever felt like reading the bible was greek? These two bibles separately or together are really nice. The King James version has the proper english feel that I get very frustrated with. "Thou shall not, etc. etc." These two bibles take that away and let you read with a lot more ease, (in my opinion.) The only con to this is, the bible is huge!!!!!!! I have since condensed to a NIV bible and The Message is on standby. I will probably give one to a friend as a gift, since I have four bibles. Thanks to my dear friend for the recommendations. | | | | Satisfied Feb 5, 2010 |
You must be a fan of the NIV and the Message versions of the Bible in order to appreciate this parallel version. They both give greater clarity and understanding when reading the bible and should you have problems understanding the King James Version. THe only drawback is that I would prefer the book to be soft instead of hard back.
I would recommend this book. | | | | Parallel Bible Feb 5, 2010 |
I really enjoy the versatility of reading the verses in NIV and the Message interpretation side-by-side. I find I spend more time reading, and the time is better spent because I'm reading the same thing being said in different ways. Cognitively, that's more engaging...it makes me think about what I'm reading more. I would definitely recommend this. Also, I had never read the NIV before (I'd primarily read the ESV, NKJV, and NCV), but I really like the NIV translation. Very accessible with handy notes at the bottom.
The hardcover version is a bit bulky, but was less expensive than the leather bound (that was my determining factor). Also, this is not a problem because I don't do a lot of travelling...it mostly stays where I read it every morning! | | | | Great product, great price. Nov 29, 2009 |
