 | Wonderful Children's Bible! Jan 18, 2007 |
| This NIrV Bible has been a great addition to our household. It is very easy to understand without changing the stories or context whatsoever. The pictures are unobtrusive, and additional facts and information are scattered throughout. The print is neither too large, nor too small. this site lists this version for ages 4-8, but I have to admit, I enjoy reading it. I think it can easily appeal to older kids as well. Having grown up with the King James Version, I find this Bible to help me better understand all of those little "hmmm, what exactly does that mean?" type questions. I wish I had had something like this when I was growing up. It helps make the Bible much more understandable. This makes a wonderful introduction to the Bible for small children, and helps older kids get a better understanding and handle on some of the more difficult to comprehend parts. | | | | Easy to read and very attractive presentation for young children! | We got this Bible for our daughter in 1st grade, who devours books at the 3rd grade reading level of this book. She (and we) wanted a full text Bible instead of a story bible, and she had been struggling with our old Young Reader's Bible RSV, which is at 8th-grade level. So we got her this NIrV Kid's Study Bible: the sentences are short, the vocabulary easy, and she really enjoys reading it, as well as the extra helps like the memory verses and thought questions. The only drawback is the illustrations. While they are cute, like children's drawings, they are not necessarily placed with the stories they represent, and we would have liked more of them. When she's a little older, we will get her the 8th-grade-level Crossway Children's Bible ESV--my favorite translation plus 200 very colorful lifelike illustrations, a truly beautiful book. | | | | Great Kid's Bible Sep 27, 2005 |
Last year I attended a Cub Scout religious emblem program with my boy. The church that was hosting the classes had bought these for their Sunday School classes. I had brought an old Good News Bible, which when I was growing up I thought was one of the most readable modern translations. However, the NIrV was clearly easier to understand for the kids. Now, my wife is teaching 4th grade Sunday School, so I have ordered a couple of these for her and my boys to use.
Only thing I don't like about NIV and NIrV is there is not an edition with the apocrypha. I am Episcopalian, and we use the apocrypha some. However, it turns out that it isn't used much at all in the kids' Sunday School. So, I don't think it will be a problem. | | | | Easy Reading Sep 14, 2005 |
| This purpose of this Bible is to make the Scriptures easy for children to understand. In this regard, the NIrV Kids' Study Bible handily accomplishes this goal. The sentences are short, and difficult vocabulary have been translated into simpler words. Review questions also appear in many sections, which aid in retention of the passage. My eldest daughter has greatly appreciated the Bible background and customs notes, and all our children love the colorful pictures. I highly recommend this Bible for elementary aged children who have at least a basic level of reading ability. I also recommend it for those learning English as their second language. | | | | First true study bible I've seen for children Feb 6, 2005 |
More than just another NIRV children's Bible from Zondervan this is truly a study Bible for the young. One of the unique features is a lot of bright pictures that appear to be drawn by children. With a very brief introduction before each book, questions scattered throughout to encourage children to think about the lessons behind the stories, and lots of other features it is an excellent choice for children. The Bible ends with a section on life in the New Testament times and a small dictionary.
The only thing I don't like is the placement of the various pictures. For example the pictures of Jesus walking on the water and Peter's vision are both in the pages of the book of Jeremiah. Likewise Zacchaeus Climbing the tree is in the pages of Ezekiel. This can be confusing to a child when the pictures are in the wrong books. Even with this caveat it is more than just a readable children's Bible, it teaches children how to study, think about what they have read, and find additional information using the dictionary. The Kids Study Bible: New International Readers Version is highly recommended as a first Study Bible for young children. | | | Write your own review about NIrV Kids Study Bible (Revised)-HC
