 | Historically accurate, excellent explanation why NOT to celebrate Halloween. Nov 20, 2008 |
| Using this book is an excellent way to help explain why we do not celebrate Halloween to our children. It is fully factual while leaving out the gorey details of what goes on behind the celabratory veil of "Halloween". As with many things, the enemy would very much like us to believe that celebrating Halloween is NOT bad. Adults should educate themselves regarding the truth behind Halloween. Rent "Halloween: Trick or Treat?". It is a great starting point. DO NOT VIEW THIS DVD WITH YOUR CHILDREN. [...] | | | | Shocking example of extremist religious views and bigotry Oct 27, 2008 |
I was shocked at how poorly written, inaccurate and outright bigoted this book was. The scandalous lies are numerous- for example, her statements that 'much of the world worships Satan on Halloween' and 'in fact, Halloween is the most important holiday for Satan worshippers' are unbelievable! There is NO basis in history or fact for this. One, Halloween has never been a holiday to 'worship' anything, Satan or any other evil. Two, most of the world has never even HEARD of Halloween, let alone celebrate it as a holiday. And again, the ones that do, including Canada and the USA, do NOT do so to 'worship Satan'. It is simply a secular holiday, done to have fun and interact with neighbors and friends (sometimes this is the ONLY time all year we may see some of our neighbors). How can this author sleep at night, making up these things? Would she really have people believe that 'other nations' really have a holiday to 'worship Satan'?? Her implying that foreign nations worship the devil, is simply bigoted and fear-mongering. The spread of attitudes such as this is what leads to intolerance and violence- which is not a Christian thing.
There are far better books about Halloween for Christians, and unsurprisingly, all of the ones that are actually based on research of both HISTORY and the BIBLE support Christians celebrating Halloween. It seems to me that most Christians who refuse to participate in Halloween do so to 'be superior' and 'holier than thou', or are gullible and have simply taken the lies/mistruths of uneducated Christians as fact. Like another reviewer stated, I am also getting more and more suspicious of Christianity, and this book (and all its supporters) make me even more reluctant to embrace it fully. | | | | Bogotabye Sep 18, 2008 |
| Terrific book as are all in this series. Please translate your books so they are available to the Spanish-speaking community. | | | | Poorly Written Jul 28, 2008 |
| This book is wrong and very sad. It puts down the rest of the children that do celebrate it, (perhaps friends of the the child it's being read to) and it makes one feel segragration comeing on, which is so wrong. If I were to read it to my children they would still ask why, and be more confused.... Also the author is way off on the history of Halloween, and the Celts, this book is just sadly missinformed and badly written. | | | | Truth will set you free! Nov 1, 2007 |
| I have done studies for years on the origins of halloween and find this book very accurate for the age group it was intended for. It's not always easy to "hear" the truth but it is what it is. As a Christian Mom I am thankful to have a resource like this to read to my children and from there have a family discussion as to why we as a family choose not to participate in such a holiday. I don't think the author comes across at any point that those who do not participate in halloween feel they are "holier than thou" as said in other comments. Matter of fact in the ending the mother explains that they still go out and have pizza for the night. I don't think that is advocating sitting in one's house thinking high and mighty of themselves. With that said...I do believe after reading this book many will struggle in their own conscience as to whether they really ought to have their children participate in halloween. Trust me though if you do your research the truth will set you free! That is if you honestly have an open mind to keeping your heart to what is pleasing to the Lord. | | | Write your own review about Mommy Why Dont We Celebrate Halloween?
