 | The "real man" stuff is getting old Dec 7, 2008 |
While I generally agree with the author's four main premises the "real man" stuff is getting old and is not really very helpful to men. Christian men have long heard these words leveled as a pejorative against themselves by secular men as if they were somehow weak and effeminate for merely believing the gospel. But for years now many in the Christian Men's movement have made the equally silly claim that they now are the "real men". This is sounding more and more like my seventh grade gym class.
Concerning our roles, the truth is Christ sets both men and women free from the distortions and lies of this world. We don't need to become "chest pounders" for that to be evident to the world. Non-believers are real men every bit as much as believers. A better description might be "renewed men" or "transformed men". Let's stop with the silliness. | | | | four pillars of a mans heart Sep 22, 2007 |
I believe this is a book which every young man should read, awareness of these principles would strengthen every mans response on how to be a competent father and husband in the family as well as his community. | | | | A Transformed Man Jun 19, 2007 |
| I cannot recommend this book more heartily. It transformed my husband from a bachelor who happened to have a wife and child to a godly, loving, servant leader of our home. This book drove my husband directly to the Word of God where he was challenged to rise to the calling of Biblical manhood. I, his wife, am reaping the benefits of this transformation, the recipient of his tender leadership, his protection and provision, his prayers and undying love. | | | | Decent, but not outstanding Apr 18, 2006 |
Our small group went through this book as a three month study. Overall, I felt that the author had good intentions and principles, but IMHO the book was poorly written and organized. On the positive side, Weber's section on the "King pillar" was for the most part quite strong and provided good application to me as a man.
However, the other pillars were not nearly as good. Some chapters seemed to be a string of sob stories without a particular point. I'm sure the author was attempting to stir up some sort of emotion, but the application and substance was sorely missing. Additionally, Weber tended to inject his political viewpoints into the book quite a bit. I'm very conservative by nature and even I thought he was a little heavy handed with the propaganda. Considering the glowing reviews on this site, I expected a little more from the book. I can't say that I recommend this book as group study, but it may be worthwhile to those who like his style. | | | | wonderful book Sep 20, 2005 |
| Stu Weber paints a precise picture of biblical masculinity. This book is helping several of my friends and I grow as husbands, fathers and teachers. | | | Write your own review about Four Pillars Of A Mans Heart
