Torrey reminds us that all the Christians who left a significant mark were pray-ers. Prayer is active! It is for doers. He begins with a discussion on the role of the Holy Spirit by emphasizing that we are totally dependent on Him. "If we try to take one step in our own strength, we will fail," he writes.
Dr. Torrey puts the purpose of Bible study into perspective when he advises, "Do not study the Bible for the mere gratification of intellectual curiosity but to find out how to live and how to please God." In studying the Bible, he says to do so in God's presence, asking Him to give understanding.
This book is filled with reflective statements that help you to examine life. Consider this observation he makes, "Nothing more clearly reveals a man's heart than what he chooses and what he rejects."
