Overview
Readers are encouraged to move beyond words and become Christ to those in need, in a volume filled with remarkable stories of hope and mercy.

Publishers Description

In Bible times, God maintained a special provision for the less fortunate. As His people harvested their fields, they were instructed to always leave a portion of the crops for those in need.

Today, God's heart continues to beat for the poor, the widows, and the fatherless. And as His children, our divine commission remains the same, a directive that's nothing less than the heart of the Christian message.

Author Tom Davis encourages us to move beyond words and become Christ to those in need. Join Tom as he shares a journey from around the world and our own backyard as people's lives are changed through the power of compassion. Filled with remarkable stories of hope and mercy, Fields of the Fatherless will inspire you to love "the least of these," and discover the joy found in becoming the hands and feet of Christ.

A Book That Will Change Your Heart  Jul 29, 2009
Fields of the Fatherless by Tom Davis is one of those books that will change your life if you let it. Your eyes will be opened to the plight of orphans, widows, the poor and the stranger and to what God says to Christians about providing for them. God will place these on your heart in such a way that you will find it hard to forget. Not only does Mr. Davis explain in detail about these "fatherless", he also shows how important the least of these are to the heart of God. You will realize that God blesses those who bless them. Mr. Davis addresses fear that robs us of the joy to be found in showing compassion to the fatherless. It is this fear that will prevent us from growing, changing and experiencing the joy and blessings God has for us. You will be encouraged to do something, not just hope that "someone else" will do it.

If you allow this book to touch you, Mr. Davis has also provided a "Guide To Walking in the Fields of the Fatherless". The Guide gives specific ways to become involved in helping the fatherless. I encourage every Christian to read this life-changing book. Do not miss the blessings you will receive by caring for those who cannot care for themselves. I know I have been personally encouraged to start a ministry to orphans in my church. I hope that others will be encouraged in the same way.

Have not read yet  Jul 14, 2009
I have not read the books yet but they arrived just as promised and in the condition promised.

the fields are plentiful, but the laborers few  May 30, 2009
The widow, the orphan, the stranger - all groups that hold a special place in the heart of God. The Church (especially in the West) has all-too-often allowed social services and government programs take the place of being the body of Christ in the world. The power of this book lies less in its Biblical exposition and more in the emotional impact of its stories. It is a call to open our hearts to those who are so important to God and become an agent of change, an advocate, and to start practicing true religion (James 1:27). If only 7% of the professed Christians in the world would open their lives and homes to an orphan, there would be no orphaned children, crying out for a place to call home. This is a call for the Church wake up and I would recommend it for those needing an introduction to the issue of adoption and care for those on the fringes. (I don't recommend it for those looking for a deep Biblical study, it is really best understood as an intro.)

Don't buy just one!  Aug 22, 2008
This book is amazing. If you don't know God's heart for orphans, widows, and strangers, you will after reading this. Mr. Davis gently takes you on a ride to understanding the plight of these three categories of people and how the church is to respond. Buy a case....you'll want to hand one to everyone you know.

Orphan's deserve a Christian's attention  Jul 30, 2008
This was a very good read. I purchased this book as a tool to make the decision whether or not to adopt a child from overseas. This author makes it very clear and cites many Biblical references to the importance of Christians to look after widows and orphans. This is a HUGE problem in the world and every Christian should help in some capacity, be it adopting, which I have done twice and more to come, or by donating time, money, or skills to help orphans and widows in our age.
