i was not bothered by the shorter length. this work flows well and does not suffer from choppiness or disjointed placement that some of the earlier pieces exhibit. you cannot read this without seriously wondering what it would be like to be in the immediate presence of Jesus Christ or just to be near him. it wonderfully works through the theme of patience and realizing that the timetable of man is different than God's. Peniel is a very likeable character and his perspective works well like a first person, witness account. the description of disease is vivid and will stay with you. the ending is uplifting. the best thing is that this is not just a fiction. the authors do a masterful job of making you feel as though you have traveled back in time. their works always compel me to read the relevant stories in the bible. | | | | Do Yeshua's Powers Affect Death? Mar 3, 2008 |
The Thoenes have jumped us back to the final months of Jesus' life for their latest novel.
Yeshua's fame is growing thanks to his many miracles. But as his popularity grows, so does the hatred of the religious leaders. Their desire to destroy Him only increases when two young adults claim to have been resurrected from the dead. After a confrontation in Jerusalem, they plot to draw Him out of hiding and arrest Him quietly. Will their plan work? Or will it backfire in the most horrifying way?
I was so nice to get back to the drama leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection. Even though I knew most of the stories they tell here already, I found them captivating all over again. And the plotting of the religious leaders made things much more fun. Plus we got to see some of the friends we've made again.
Not that the book was perfect. For some reason, they chose to tell much of this book in first person from Peniel's point of view. What made it confusing was that some passages were third person with little to tell the two apart. It really could have been done smoother. Additionally, these books seem to be becoming thinner. This one is just over 200 pages while we cover very little ground.
Yes, these are annoyances, but they are minor. This was another enjoyable book from two of the best in the Christian market today. | | | | Seventh Day (A.D. Chronicles, Book 7) Feb 14, 2008 |
| This is an awesome continuation of the A.D. Chronicles series. It makes you feel like you are living in Jesus' time and walking with him in His ministry. I look forward to each new book in the series! | | | | They've Done It Again! Jan 11, 2008 |
Seventh Day (A. D. Chronicles, Book 7)First Light (A. D. Chronicles #1)Second Touch (A.D. Chronicles, No. 2)Third Watch (A.D. Chronicles, No. 3)Fourth Dawn (A. D. Chronicles, No. 4)Fifth Seal (A. D. Chronicles, No. 5)Sixth Covenant (A.D. Chronicles, No. 6)The Jerusalem ScrollsStones of Jerusalem: A Novel of the Struggle for Jerusalem (Thoene, Bodie, Zion Legacy, Bk. 5.)Jerusalem's Hope (The Zion Legacy, Book VI)
Seventh Day continues the beautiful story of The A. D. Chronicles, which actually began in book 4 of the Thoenes' Zion Legacy series. A special prologue and epilogue will be meaningful to readers of that series as well as the Zion Chronicles and Covenant that began it all; but the book centers around the New Testament characters Miryam, Marta, El'azar, and especially, of course, Yeshua.
These characters--both the historical and the fictional ones--live, and their lives help readers see Bible stories in new ways. The books' clear theme, presented in many ways, is that everything in Scripture has meaning. A reading guide at the end of each volume makes this and other A. D. Chronicles an excellent choice for a book club.
In all the Thoenes' books you find engrossing stories, marvelous writing, backed by meticulous research, and infused with deep faith. This one captivated me from the opening page; I finished it in one day and am still living in it.
My only complaint against this five-star novel is its length. At 212 pages, it is far too short. That didn't hurt the writing or the story, but they could have included more. The first three books in the series were well over 300 pages, but they've grown ever shorter since then. This is 50 pages shorter than the last (which didn't seem any too long at the time). People who love these books, love their depth and would only enjoy them more if they lasted longer. | | | Write your own review about Seventh Day (A.D. Chronicles V7)
