Tenth Avenue North started life as a worship band in Florida before moving on to bigger things and signing a record deal. Their debut is already creating plenty of waves as they fashion a sound that will appeal to fans of Jars Of Clay and MercyMe. Lyric writer Mike Donehey likes to explore things from different angles which is what makes songs like Hold My Heart and Times puzzle things out from unique perspectives. The catchy sounds of Love Is Here is an immediate winner and Beloved is written as Christ's wedding vows to the church whilst the acoustic Times is nicely contemplative. At the other extreme, Satisfy is a rather pleasing anthemic rocker.
Tenth Avenue North's melodies are memorable and the musicianship is taut and inventive, but it's Mike Donehey's incredible lyrics that literally moved me to tears. He has an uncanny ability to put words to the hopes, fears, dreams and struggles we all carry in our hearts and on our shoulders. I love, love, LOVE this CD!!! I have bought so many copies as gifts for so many people! (Wow! Don't I sound like I live on the beach.....nope! a cynic from NJ) I just received their new one and am in the process of getting to know it.....I'll let you know! Anyway, I've wanted to sit down and write to these guys, because I am having such a hard time grasping how a bunch of "young boys" so "GET IT!" This music truly tries to inspire you and honestly does a very good job. The song, "By Your Side" really sticks to you and is a very good song. The lyrics are genuine and you can feel they truly try to reach out to the Lord in their lyrics.
I was very pleased with this offering and will most likely buy the new album when it comes out.

I love this album! Every song on it is centered on God, praising and glorifying Him and lifting His name. I listen to it constantly and so many songs on it move me to tears. Beloved, especially as well Hold My Heart. Really, every song is incredible! I have been to see the band twice in concert and had the opportunity to meet and talk with them for about thirty minutes the first time, and they are all totally genuine, obviously loving God and wanting to serve Him. I recommend this album wholeheartedly to everyone. Also, props for their newest song, Healing Begins, that just released to radio. I can't wait for their newest album!!

I have friends who love rap, heavy metal, christians and antichristian and their lyrics and vocals... had all of us, just listen.

I ordered this CD just based on the snippets I heard here on this site, and was I glad I ordered their CD! They have a great sound, and great lyrics. My husband loves them, too! Hoping the group will produce more great music!
