 | Excellent tool for healing hurts Mar 18, 2008 |
This book is an excellent tool to help children and even adults give their pain a concrete image, and help them learn how to let go of it. | | | | The Hurt is a must for your bookshelf Jun 19, 2007 |
I first heard of this book from a first grade teacher. We were discussing her relationship and the pain her husband was experiencing during their divorce. She felt that his unresolved pain from childhood had lead to his inablity to bond. She had enormous compassion because she understood his hurt though he had left her. When she read this book to me as we sat in small chairs in her class room one day after school, I wept as she turned the little pages.
Little book, big message, valuable insight, extremely well written. I have often wanted to write Teddi Doleski a letter of appreciation for this book. I share it every chance I get. Sincerely, G. Auxier | | | | magical Jul 13, 2006 |
| The Hurt is a beautifully written book for children and adults. It can be used in a therapeutic setting or for everyday reading. The book deals with the anxiety, loneliness, and upset that can result from the internalization of feelings. The character learns to ease this anxiety/pain by verbalizing his internal distress and seeking out the comfort of his father. Teddi Doleski magically captures the "hurt" that results from conflict/teasing/internalization of unhappiness and the tendency for this "hurt" to grow without assistance. The book then provides the character with ways to cope with these feelings and externalize his emotions, which results in decreased "hurt." I buy the book in bulk and provide all of my clients and friends with a copy. | | | | Excellent Resource Sep 14, 2005 |
| As a counsellor I am always looking for useful stories to help kids to understand the things they struggle with. This book is so good as it realistically explains the hurt that comes from teasing and parents who make mistakes and how that hurt grows and gets worse when it is not talked out. | | | | Even as an adult, I still use the lesson taught in this book Apr 19, 2005 |
As a little girl, I remember finding this among my older brother's books, and reading it over and over again. Sometimes, my mom would read it with me, and talk with me about it. Even though the book made me sad when I read it, I was nevertheless drawn to it.
The book comforted me, helped me realize that it was okay to be hurt, and taught me to empathize with the pain of others'. I am all grown up, but every now and then when I am down, I think back to this book and the lesson it taught. Very few books in my entire life have impacted me this much! I will definitely buy it for my own children. This is truly a beautiful and endearing little book! | | | Write your own review about The Hurt
