Join Ernie at The Furry Arms Hotel for a musical lesson in just how useful counting can be. When Ernie finds and returns a misplaced key, he uses his knowledge of numbers to return the key to the correct guest. As Ernie begins to learn about the hotel business, he finds many common situations in which counting is essential. Throughout the 30-minute video, Ernie and his friends help children learn to count from 1 to 20 with such songs as the jazzy "That's How the Numbers Go," an original version of the Chorus Line show tune "One," and "Rap Song #11." Favorite Sesame Street characters Elmo and The Count are joined by new characters including Ding the Dinger, a furry fellow with a bell on his head, and Benny, the bellboy that responds to Ding the Dinger's dings. Children as young as 18 months will bounce happily along with the catchy tunes and 2-year-olds will be inspired to count aloud with Ernie. Kids up to age 5 will hone their counting skills and laugh at the increasingly frustrated Benny as he delivers everything from 1 bucket of ice to 15 stampeding elephants! | Our two-and-a-half year old really got into this, but didn't like "learning about numbers" at all, except for one little sequence that show 2 girls playing with a dollhouse. the two dvds are actually quite different: this one features elmo and ernie and feels very much geared toward children while "learning about numbers" actually seems like they were trying to entertain children and adults at the same time by adopting a mock talk show format where big bird is supposed to be some kind of jay leno standup. plus there is a lot of "The Count" in that LAN, and our toddler didn't like him at all! Much better choice, I think, for toddlers. Only weakness is that they give short shrift or even skip over certain numbers between 1-20. | THIS IS MY FAVORITE KID'S VIDEO. We originally borrowed this from the library. We liked it so much, and I was so tired of having to return it after maxing out the renewals just to check it out again, that we decided to buy it. The kids (2 and almost 4 years old) ask for it all the time. I thought they'd be tired of it after a few months, but it still holds their interest. The songs are a great compliation of really great Sesame Street production numbers. We all sing along and, quite frankly, I can't get the songs for the numbers 3, 5, and 10 out of my head. The kids also like the bits with Ernie and Benny (don't call him bunny) between the songs which is usually when the kid's lose interest in this type of DVD. | | | | Sesame Street Does It Again Dec 14, 2007 |
| You have to love Sesame Street-they consistently produce material that is child-friendly and educational. The songs are catchy and it is a great tool for teaching numbers. | This DVD really helped my 2.5 year old daughter progress quickly with learning her numbers, and the different songs are great and catchy for singing in the car. The only thing I don't understand is that in the opening number Ernie counts to 20, which is great, but as they go through each individual number they stop at 15? | This one has some decent material, but it takes too long to get to it. It begins with Ernie finding a room key from the Furry Arms Hotel and he proceeds there to return it. Once there, he engages in some banter with Benny the Bunny, the hotel owner and some hotel staff. This goes on for several minutes and becomes tedious before some short Sesame Street segments are able to offer a brief respite. Some of these are good, though the song with three blackbirds is not very good and lasts too long. Also, the MC Elmo song about the Number Five is also on The Best of Elmo DVD; so, if you are looking for exclusive Elmo material for your child, this is not your best bet. Now, I like Ernie as much as the next person, but I'm not certain what they were thinking when they decided to feature so much interaction with other, practically unknown characters. He ends up dinging the bellhop bell fifteen times, which is way too repetitious for even the youngest viewer.
