Item Description... Thinking about starting a church but feel like everything is stacked against you? Let authors Nelson Searcy and Kerrick Thomas, both pastors at The Journey Church of the City, offer you specific strategies for beginning a church - from scratch. As true practitioners, they launched a New York City church with no members, no money and no staff, and then watched membership skyrocket to more than a thousand people in three years!
How did they do it? You'll discover clear, proven strategies for planning services, building a team, raising funds, evangelism and rapidly developing a growing membership. Specific advice is included for reaching that often difficult-to-target demographic, the 20- to 40-year-old. You'll also get an insider's look at The Journey Church of the City as a model for church planting.

 | Formulaic, But a Good Formula Mar 13, 2007 |
Launch delivers what it promises -- a clear, reliable guide to planting new churches. It follows a particular model, with which some may find fault, but it serves as a good primer for executing that model. Adequate attention is directed at the role of Christ in the establishing of his church, though one may still bristle at the formulaic approach.
The open question here is the same as in Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Church": Can description (of what happened) really translate into prescription (of what you should do)?
You'll never know until you actually try to plant a church this way. And even if that effort should fail, it's hard to diagnose the cause of failure. Perhaps that's why such "how to" books are great. They can never be disproved by failure, only affirmed by success. If the new church soars, the author's share credit. If it flops, the planter gets the blame alone. | | | | A must Read for all church planters Mar 9, 2007 |
Nelson and Kerrick have provided a tool that is going to help church planters for years to come. The book displays the fact that these two authors are practitioners. | Nelson and Kerrick have written a book that "dials in" on the principles they live and teach. After serving as a short-term missionary with their church, I saw these principles lived out with integrity, honest professionalism, and a pure heart. These guys practice what they preach AND they take others along with them. Nelson and Kerrick, along with their team and those they've coached around the world, may be THE MOST INFLUENTIAL NEW CHURCH PLANTERS IN THE WORLD. Read this book and apply it. I promise you "traction." We got it! You will too! | | | | A must have resource if you are planting a church! Mar 9, 2007 |
| Nelson and Kerrick have written a very practical guide to launching a church! It is extremely helpful at any phase of the process and is something I go back and look at frequently. Don't even think about planting a church without putting this book on your reading list! | | | | No Question! This IS the LAUNCH book to Read! Mar 8, 2007 |
| I know. I know. There are are a ton of books out there on how to start a church. I probably read 95% of them before launching The Pointe in March 2006. So why is this book better than most? It is practical. It is provides a systematic approach that can be followed almost to a "T" and most of all IT WORKS! In just one year of weekly services since we launched The Pointe, we are averaging around 620 at Sunday services. 177 new pofessions of faith have been made and over 65 people have been baptized! Go God! I met Nelson in 2005 and through God first, Nelson's leadership and the principles he and Kerrick share in this book, The Pointe is one of the fastest growing churches in the UMC in Georgia. If you are looking for a model that works, THIS IS IT! | | | Write your own review about Launch
