Item Description... The Book of Esther is the only Bible book besides Ruth that is named after a woman. It is also unique in that it never mentions the name of God. Yet the theme of the book is profound: God in his providential wisdom has power over individuals and history. And in Esther?s case, God does so through a girl that has gone her own way. In Espresso With Esther, Sandra Glahn explores lesser-known facts about this young woman whose courageous actions helped save an exiled people from impending genocide. Espresso With Esther is a five-week study to be read in short, daily segments that examine each chapter of Esther and encourage readers to make applications to their own lives. Sandra has adapted this study on Esther in such a convenient way that it can be read during brief lulls in our daily schedules that present opportunities for meditation and study (breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, etc.). Each weekly study in Espresso With Esther begins with an introduction to be done on Sundays, followed by five days of studying Scripture and making pertinent life applications along the way. The weekly studies are concluded with fitting devotional readings to be read on Saturdays. These devotionals contain an overview of what has been studied throughout the week along with some closing thoughts and a prayer. Sandra?s unconventional thought processes regarding Esther are sprinkled throughout the study as she shatters preconceived myths about this legendary character of the Bible. As a result, more emphasis is placed on Esther?s vulnerabilities and the fact that she was a flawed person whom God chose to use for His greater glory.
Additional Information Espresso with Esther is part of The Coffee Cup Bible Study Series, a line of Bible study products for women in workbook format that examine the "life and times" of certain Bible characters, especially the books of the Bible that pertain to them. Each study is to be read over a four-to-six-week period, and study sections are broken down into short, daily segments designed to fit into readers' busy lifestyles.
A writer in tune with the reading habits and tastes of modern readers, Sandra understands the time constraints of most women. With these concerns in mind, Sandra has adapted this study on Esther in such a convenient way that it can be read during brief lulls in a woman's daily schedule that present opportunities for meditation and study (breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, etc.).

 | Wow Factor Feb 15, 2007 |
Sandra Glahn once again weaves theology and practicality together to give us a Bible study we can learn from and live out.
At the end of each session, I would record a Wow Factor, something that especially blew me away: (I'll share a few here) God of great reversals. Glahn writes: "Only God can use our sins for good, and the Book of Esther is a book about such a reversal." Choose the path of courage. Glahn writes: "When we walk in the Spirit...what's inside is so radiant that people see beyond us to Him. And if you feel weak, you're in the ideal situation for God to show His all-surpassing power through you."
Glahn reveals Esther beyond the whitewashed heroine we've come to accept her as. And we take the journey to God's great triumph over evil, as we see Esther's courage grow.
I can't wait to dig into Java with Judges!
| | | | The reader is drawn into the heart of Esther Jan 18, 2007 |
| In Sandi Glahn's, "Espresso with Esther," the biblical character Esther comes alive. Through the detailing of historical facts and events, the cross-referencing of Scripture and the vivid imagery of the character, the reader is drawn into the heart of Esther, and the world around her. "Espresso with Esther," skips the surface of mere Scripture reading and goes straight to the heart of inductive Bible study. Never before have I experienced a Bible study "to-go." Having the convenience of enjoying Bible study during my lunch hour, without the pressure of remembering to bring my Bible. The text is included. I highly recommend Glahn's "Espresso with Esther" as a great way to jumpstart your day. | | | | Coincidence or Prodividence? Sep 1, 2006 |
This study will assist those who interact with its message to explore the difference. Sandra Glahn offers insights, examples and applications that encourage students of the Bible to consider just how incidences in our own lives stack up for the glory of God and the good of His people (see p. 45).
Glahn reminds readers of the exquisite literary quality of Esther as well as the beauty of its story. A Bible study indeed "for such a time as this." | | | | Espresso With Esther Jul 6, 2006 |
| Sandra Glahn brings out interesting details and insights in this book. The day divisions and chapters seem very workable for today's busy woman, and having the scripture text included in the book is very convenient. I would love to teach this Bible study!...D.J.Martin, Ladies' Bible Study Teacher. | | | | Not only excellent research but devotional as well! Jun 20, 2006 |
The first thing I appreciate about this study was that it challenged my childhood understanding of the woman Esther. It encourages all women, regardless of their past regrets, to obey to the Lord in the present. Surprisingly, in a book where God is not mentioned, the study brings to light invaluable devotional thoughts on what He is doing in life "behind the scenes". Lastly, I appreciate Sandra's historical research behind the book--it helped me link other books in Scripture to the main characters and also provided a fundamental background to reading the book of Esther. Highly recommend. | | | Write your own review about Espresso With Esther (Coffee Cup Bible Series)
