Pastors are not (usually) physicians. That being said, it is helpful to have a general idea of the symptoms and progression of common conditions (especially those considered psychiatric).
Dr. Bob, a physician and nouthetic counselor for over 30 years, is still teaching excellent courses on counseling, especially dealing with medical issues and uncommon situations.
The biggest help in this book is the suggestions he gives for counseling someone who is facing these problems.
