Reviews - What do our customers think?
ok book - best for those in a school/  Dec 3, 2009
I have purchased several of the books from this series but no more. I think they might be best in a school setting rather than for use by a family in a home. This Thanksgiving book is told from the prespective a blonde little girl. Almost all scences are in school or related to school. While it does reference the Pilgrams several times ("they wnated to be free" and are shown walking into a small building with a cross on top) actual religious freedom is not mentioned or why they wanted to be free or from what they wanted to be free. The little girl is shown pledging to the flag in a classroom to illustrate that she is thankful for her freedom which some might find that ironic - thankful for freedom in a school where attendence is forced by law! :) 4 out 7 pictures show the little girl in a school setting and only 3 show her at her home or with her family. The general story of the pilgrams is told and then the modern girl is shown as having something similar for which to be thankful. Cute idea, nice way to incorporate the Pilgrams story and help it to be relatable. However, not very helpful if the children are not yet of school age or one is homeschooling.
Various ethinic groups represented as fellow school children and of course the Native Americans in the Pilgram's story.
