I was anxious to get this book from this site since I grew up in Louisiana as a transsexual, too. However, 'Perry: A Transformed Transexual' does have a tendency to read like 'Go Ask Alice': a fabricated story by a journalist to use as a cautionary tale for teenagers who are thinking about using drugs. In the same way, 'Perry' seems like a cautionary tale NOT to become a transsexual or all you'll have is a life of pain, suicide attempts and other misery. Even though there are certainly many transsexuals who have similar experiences and do return to living as a male, or kill themselves, but Perry seems to be on a crusade here. Plus, his constant craving for the spotlight - as both a male and female - does come off as more than a touch annoying at times. We get it! You wanted to be FAMOUS, girlfriend.
Although, aside from the religious mumbo-jumbo, I could relate to many of the experiences Perry had: the childhood bullies, the constant rejection by so-called 'heterosexual' men who say they like transsexual (even though I know I'm better off without them), the sometimes near-mental breakdowns... Plus the mention of the old Erickson Educational Foundation (now closed) and the liquid silicone injections he had (now illegal) was nostalgic.

| This is a great book detailing the journey of a man looking for an indentity, and a transexual looking for unconditional, lasting love. I had the great privilege of meeting Perry after his second transformation - he was one of the most friendly, peaceful people you could ever want to know. He was working at a Christian bookstore in a place called the Artisan's Court on Sunset in Hollyweird. As a new believer, I volunteered time at the Oasis Lightclub, serving coffee and sandwiches to street people. I wish I had enough money to buy a case, because his book is worth gifting away to those who are struggling with identity issues, as I was. I hope this book blesses many. I had the pleasure of knowing Perry over a period of years when I lived in Reno. He would come into town for speaking engagements and to meet with friends in the entertainment business.
Perry was a man of great integrity, abundant love and endless service. His story is profound -- well worth the read.
Miss you, Perry -- see you one day soon!
