I love this Bible! The cover is beautiful and supple. There is SO much content.
The only thing I would change would be to make the notes a smaller text size than the Bible text. Some of the pages that have alot of notes and profiles can get a little overwhelming to look at.

| I have completed an initial scan of this Bible and it appears to be probably the most informative and in depth study Bible I have ever seen. The NLT version is one of the most accurate versions available in English. I gave up trying to find the ideal combination of cover material & color, large or standard print size, and indexed or on-line. The many options make it like trying to find the ideal American car. So I went to a Christian bookstore to attempt to sort out the choices offerd by Tyndale Publishing and discovered the following:
1. There are two types of box packaging...green and a combo black/red. The green box Life Application edition scripture reads all the way across the page like a book (no columns). The black/red box Study Bible edition scripture is formatted in two-columns. Scripture is in the top half of each page, then maps, profiles etc. in the middle and notes & commentary on the scripture is in 3 colums at the bottom half of each page.
2. Cover material. There are four grades to choose from: "Genuine Leather", "Bonded Leather", "Leatherlike" (or imitation leather), and "Hardcover". The genuine leather has a rich grain and a soft and supple feel. The bonded leather is thin and stiff, and the texture is pretty well the same standard used by most publishers. Burgandy and Black are the only choices. With "Leatherlike" there are many choices, including "Tu Tone" combinations. Unfortunately this site is not very good at showing these combinations. These feel much more durable than the bonded leather, yet are soft with a silky smooth texture. The leather editions smell just like...leather. The imitations are absolutely odor-free.
3. Indexing: If you're determined to learn the order of the books, which will come naturally with habitual reading, the indexing is like having training wheels that won't come off. The books are lumped with three 3-letter codes per tab e.g., "GEN EXO LEV".
4. Paper quality. If you're looking for a reason not to buy this bible, don't let the "read through" be it. This is a problem common to most study bibles. The paper is thin, but it's not toilet paper. With care it will last just fine.
5. Readability: This is the NLT's finest feature. Not only is the scripture written in an easy-going conversational style, so too are the commentary notes. If you are really looking for a better word study bible, consider the Key Word NASB which has both Hebrew and Greek dictionaries and most words indexed and defined. If thou lovest words like thee, thy, and thou...by all means stick with King James and get a Life Application edition. For obstinate teens, try the Message paraphrase and then bring them back around to NLT or NASB. If you just cannot decide, buy a Parallel Bible with contrasting translations. There is one published with New King James, New Century, the Message and commentary all in one.
