Hardbound, 32 page- Full Color
With broken wagon wheels, dangerous predators and scheming villains the West can be a very wild place to live -- that is unless you have a hero like Sam to save you.
In this one-size-fits-all story, our hero Sam must overcome his prideful tendency and learn the importance of not letting popularity distract him from his calling.
With his 10-gallon hat, Sam is given extaordinary strength from the White Rider, but will he use it to help others or will it go to his head? Based on the story of Samson in Judges 13-16, Sam learns that sometimes the greatest enemy we can face is our own prideful heart.
The second book in the Heroes of Promise series, Ten-Gallong Sam and the Perilous Mine, introduces children to the concept of obeying God and using their strengths to serve Him.
Ages: 6-10
Written and illustrated by The Miller Brothers -- Chris and Allan.

Additional Information There is never a dull moment in the old West town of Promise. Oddly enough, the lives of some of the townsfolk resemble some of the best-known characters of the Bible. Keeping a watchful eye over this somewhat wacky town is the White Rider. Always present but only appearing to those who seek him, the White Rider provides guidance to those wise enough to listen to what He has to say.
Ten-Gallon Sam and the Perilous Mine introduces children to the concept obeying God and using their strengths to serve Him. In this story, Sam is given extraordinary strength from the White Rider, but will he use it to help others or will it go to his head?
Based on the Bible story of Samson in Judges 13-16, Sam learns that sometimes the greatest enemy we can face is our own prideful heart. At the end of the book, the "Ponderin' Points" help children think about their strengths and how they can use them for God. You'll also find a short devotional and instructions on how to build a ten-gallon hat! Recommended for ages 6 to 10.

 | Great Retelling of a Difficult Story Aug 1, 2008 |
The "heroes" of the book of Judges aren't always the most stellar of characters and sometimes it is difficult to communicate their story to children in a way that captures both their strength and their weakness. With their Heroes of Promise series, the Miller Brothers have embraced these flawed characters and used their weakness to teach children about the strength of God and the power of faith in Him. They've taken these difficult stories (the story of Gideon in "Gid the Kid" and the story of Samson with "10 Gallon Sam") and really captured and communicated the principles Scripture is teaching. Our family loved "Gid the Kid" (my 3 year old daughter had us read it over and over again) but I must say that the Millers raised the bar with "10 Gallon Sam." The illustrations are even more crisp and refined, the poetic narrative flows smoothly along, and the story ends with our focus pointed to the God who gives great gifts, not simply a man to whom the gifts were given (where a lot of telling of the Samson story focuses). The book also includes a bible study parents can do with their kids, with the Millers directing their readers to the true source of their inspiration. Great job guys! Keep the tales from Promise coming!
| | | | Really Great Book Mar 21, 2008 |
| This is the second in the series and is a really awesome book. It is a retelling of the story of Samson set in the old west. My kids really love this book and I do to. It is kind of like the Veggie Tales series which retells Bible stories but allo f this series is set in the old west. The books have a great message that everyone needs to hear. The illustrations are also top notch. The pictures also have a little bee or two hidden in each picture that my little boys just love to try and find. Also at the back it tells you how to make your own 10 gallon hat which is a great way to get your kids even more involved in the story. I expect great things from the Miller brothers and cant wait to see what else they release. | | | Write your own review about Legend Of Ten Gallon Sam & The Perilous Mine
