Item Description... Overview Getting married is one of the easiest things in the world to do. It requires a license, a ring, and two witnesses. But staying married for the rest of their lives is one of the greatest challenges that couples will ever undertake. Marvin McMickle has provided a seven-step resource for premarital counseling that couples can use with or without the involvement of a clergy member or counselor. Developed over a thirty-year career in pastoral ministry, this book is based upon the premise that a healthy marriage is the result of what happens before a couple says, "I do." By focusing on seven concepts--faith, friendship, frankness, forgiveness, fidelity, finance, and family--couples will discover the tools they need to build a strong and lasting marriage in the twenty-first century. This book is an invaluable resource for both couples and premarital counselors. Questions are provided at the end of each chapter for serious reflection.

 | Before We Say I Do: 7 Steps to a Healthy Marriage Mar 23, 2007 |
This book was recommended by a marriage counselor, I did not receive my copy, but did not know the process to notify the seller. I will reorder. The post office did not deliver because I moved. | | | | Excellent Book Jul 24, 2006 |
| A must read for all couples planning to get married. There are topics in here that you should definately bring up to your "intended" BEFORE you say "I do". | | | | This book is cliche at best Jun 26, 2006 |
The seven topics for this book seem forced. Having taken two of McMickle's classes in seminary, I can say that the book is no better than half a dozen other pre-marriage books on the market.
Since McMickle is (perhaps) best known as a preacher and not as a counselor or academic, it's not surprising to see all the main "concepts" in the book start with the same letter. Here's the main outline: faith, friendship, frankness, forgiveness, fidelity, finance, and family. Seriously, can you really reduce marriage to a bunch of words all beginning with the same letter? Such a strategy may help parishioners remember main points from a sermon, but it's certainly not clear that one should take the same approach with counseling and/or writing.
It seems he spent more time thinking of words with the same letter (F) than actually developing a book which helps pre-married individuals plan for marriage. | | | | It hit the spot Aug 5, 2005 |
The book was very well organized and written. The author kept it real, to the point, and very interesting.
I am planning to get remarried and I don't want to make the same mistakes I made before. I have in my head a list of things to discuss with my bride to be, and the book helped me to put this list into some organization. I liked the seven categories. I think they perfectly capture everything I had on my list and more. It definitely hit the spot.

| I found this book to be an excellent resource for couples that I counsel. I would highly recommend it. Pastor M.B. Jackson | | | Write your own review about Before We Say I Do
