 | I just loved this Elsie book Sep 13, 2008 |
This amusing story trails Elsie's young granddaughter, Lulu, through both exciting times and troubling trials. To take you on a stroll through the book, there's festive parties, rattlesnake encounters, pet ponies to ride, devastating injuries, and a home full of love and compassion. You'll be able to see Lulu grow in spirit to get past her famous tempers, with both her Heavenly & Earthly fathers guiding her.
Personally, I just loved this Elsie book, and I couldn't wait to finish it! I'm excited to read book #14 next. | | | | Elsie's Family Expands Again Dec 12, 2003 |
| From Elsie's New Relations (Book 9) onwards, Elsie herself has moved into the backgroud and her children and their families have taken centre stage. In Elsie's Friends at Woodburn the focus is again on the Raymonds: the Captain, his second wife Violet, his three children from his first marriage, Max, Lulu and Grace, and the babies, Elsie and Ned. Most of the book is taken up with Lulu's struggles to control her temper, and to modern readers the seriousness with which this is taken might seem excessive. There are the usual escapes from near death, and beautifully described family parties, and readers of Elinor M. Brent-Dyer's Chalet School series will find a surprising connection with The Chalet School and the Lintons. This book is as much fun to read as the earlier Elsie books. Lulu Raymond is a much more believable and attractive heroine than Elsie was as a child, although 'Grandma Elsie' is an appealing character. And Rosie Travilla finally gets her comeuppance! | | | | Perfect Aug 25, 2001 |
