Portable Sounds by Tobymac Sounds Like A Huge Hit!  Mar 29, 2007
Mama always said if you don't have something good to say about somebody don't say anything at all, so what do you say, let's give TobyMac some loving. I must admit that I don't normally do this sort of thing, but after listing to TobyMac's last CD Welcome To Diverse City I must give credit where credit is due. Diverse City played more like TobyMac had put out about 10 albums over a 10 year period and this was his greatest hits compilation rather than a collection of new material. In other words every song sounded like it had hit potential. On his new CD Portable Sounds TobyMac doesn't disappoint. Once again every song sounds like a possible hit, but the unique thing about TobyMac is where will these hits land, because these song's appeal to such a diverse crowd that they could land as a Christian Rock hit, R&B hit, Rap hit, funk hit, Top 40 radio hit, they could land just about anywhere. Put simply if you can't find a few songs to love on Welcome To Diverse City or Portable Sounds then you are not a fan of popular music today and that's a glorious achievement in my book, "Awesome!" job TobyMac.

Portable Sounds #2  Mar 26, 2007
I love this CD so much I bought one for home and one for the office! I was actually taking it from home to work all the time and decided to get one for each place to keep the music BOOMIN' all day! Talk about PORTABLE SOUNDS! I WAS MADE TO LOVE this one!

Right in the middle.  Mar 22, 2007
First of all,I don't get what people don't like about this album.Okay,it's not his best but,it's still good.I think it's better than diverse city but,not as good as momentum.Below I put a song-to-song review.

1.One world 4/5 A good hip-hop number,gets a little annoying.
2.Made to love 5/5 The first single off this album, and one of the best songs on here.
3.Boomin' 5/5 An awesome hard rock,hip-hop song,simply amazing.
4.I'm for you 5/5 A pop influenced song,good message.
5.Face of the earth 5/5 A slow song he wrote to someone he hasn't saw in a while.
6.No ordinary love 5/5 What can I say?This is
great.
7. Ignition 3/5 This song is average,kinda good,kinda bad.
8.Hype man.5/5 A hilarious song with truett.
9.Suddenly 3/5 Again,just average.
10.All in 3/5 Another pop song.
11.Feelin' so fly 4/5 A good song,I don't listen to it much.
12.No signal 5/5 A good interclude where he can't get no signal on his cell phone.
13.Lose my soul 5/5 A perfect song with 2 guest singers.

Thanks for reading this and I hope you found it helpful.

Decent, nothing more.  Mar 19, 2007
I'm a big fan of Toby. Lately, his music has gone downhill. This album was a HUGE disappointment to me. The commercial pop stuff doesn't sound like TobyMac. It's very watered down beats and tired lyrics. There are a couple of good songs, but I doubt I'll ever put this album back in the CD Player. dc Talk was his prime, Momentum was rockin, Diverse City was good. This, however, utter disappointment.

tobyMac Does it again!!  Mar 19, 2007
I didn't start listening to tobyMac until December of '06, but I fell in love with his music IMMEDIATELY! In early March I got (portable sounds) and loved it. "Boomin'" was the song that I like best. I don't really listen to much rock, and my aunt described the song as 'Heave Metal'...hey, it it's Toby, who cares?! "Lose My Soul" is the next best; it really talks about the pressure, not only a music artist confronts, but the pressure that everyone faces in everyday life. The pressure to fit in and do what other people expect; I think the song is almost like Shawn Macdonald's "Free" (Another great song). "Ignition" is another 'Heavy Metal song, and another great song. My younger (four y/o) brother's fave song is "Hype Man (truDog '07)". I think that the truDog songs are a little immatureish (if that's a word). The song "Suddenly" really deals with a family falling apart, and that can be tough to deal with, but toby knows how it feels, and his song "Stories" (From Welcome to Diverse City) also deals with the same issue. No matter what other reviewers say....I'm a hardcore tobyMac fan, and will always stick by him, and his music.
