Item Description... Overview When several Wemmicks try to outdo each other to come up with the best gift for Eli the woodcarver on Maker-Day, Punchinello's simple song saves the celebration.
Publishers Description
With the Maker-Day Festival fast approaching, Punchinello wants to do something really big for Eli, the woodcarver. But everyone else he meets in Wemmicksville is also trying to make the best contribution to the festival. Hans believes that his seven-layer chocolate cherry truffle cake with double butter-cream frosting will be the best part, but Violet is sure her bountiful bouquet will come out on top. Lucia knows her vocal solo will make the day, and Dr. Marvel is eager to show off his magnificent Marvellaphony-organoni. What can Punchinello do? When all of Wemmicksville gathers for the unveiling of the cake and the bouquet and Lucia’s solo, Punchinello accidentally destroys the cake, the bouquet, and the Marvellaphony-organoni! What could have been a disaster results in the marvelous gift, and the people of Wemmicksville realize that Maker-Day is not about a cake or a bouquet—it’s all about Eli. |

 | A book to share with grandchildren Oct 4, 2008 |
| This book will be part of the collection we are putting together to share with our grandchildren when they come to visit. Wonderful and colorful illustrations and many points to talk about and interact with the kids. | | | | Not as good as previous books Jan 11, 2008 |
| I have many other Max Lucado children's books. You are special, You are Mine and If I only had a green nose to name a few. They are very powerful stories with wonderful symbolism. This book, I found to be lacking in symbolism and the power of the message of Christ, which is why I purchased the book for my young sons. The illustrations were also different from the other books I have and I did not like the computer graphics as well as I do the other illustrations by Sergio Martinez. | | | | What a great Christmas book for children! That said, I bought this in July! We love the Wemmick stories in our house so I had to make this a part of our collection and my little guy just loves it! It's about what the Wemmicks call "Maker Day," which is our version of Christmas. Punchinello loves Eli very much and sets out to do something special for him. He tells Eli, "I like you, I love you and I want all to see that without you, there'd be no me." But Eli reminds him that "just being with you is enough." Anyway, Punch sets out and in his travels, sees all the hustling and bustling of the holiday season. He first runs into his friend Hans who is busy making a seven-layer cake for Eli. He wants his gift to be the best gift of all. Then, Punch runs into Violet, the florist, who thinks her giant bouquet will be the best of Maker Day. Finally, Punch finds his friend Lucia a part of the competition who is working on a song to sing for the special day. Well, catastrophe happens which is quite funny and well, Punch actually is the one who winds up being the best of Maker day without even trying. He develops a praise song out of the words he spoke to Eli earlier: "I like you, I love you..." After the catastrophe, the whole town starts singing and playing the song and they keep singing it until they reach Eli's workshop. He sets down everything to listen and applauds them.
The best thing to give your Maker is your heart and adoration, which is the moral to the story. What a great way to teach your child the true meaning of Christmas! Highly recommend! | | | Write your own review about Wemmicks/Punchinello & Most Marvelous Gift
