June (Brides of the West #2)  Jan 31, 2010
I loved the story. It was very difficult to put down to go to sleep.

Good historical Chrisian story  Nov 5, 2009
This involves the history of the Northwest into a romatic story which involves disappointments as well as surprises. However, it does not take long before you figure out the expected ending. You do enjoy the story and the travels and wonder if it is based upon any real-life events. It is not a gripping type of story, but is relaxing, enjoyable reading.

Not Sure I Can Bear To Read The Third Book 'Hope'!  Aug 2, 2008
I read Faith and just finished June, and have Hope here, but I'm not sure I will even bother reading it!

If this author can only use the same tired old formula of initial friction between the romantic leads, then sparks flying when they accidentally touch,I am not interested in reading anymore about such stupidity in the women!

It's very sad to use such a formula over and over again to explain a developing relationship. It really bothers me,that the women in these books are so willing to accept these men on no more than physical/chemical attraction. At least the man June comes to love in this book is more worthy and attentive than the cold creep Nicholas in the first book,Faith!

It's sad that so many women choose/accept and put up with men who are cold, inattentive and worse in real life, but it sickens when an author encourages women by writing such stories,to believe that if there are sparks there, that is all that is needed for a happy-ever-after ending! PUHLEASE!

BTW I was happily married for 30 years, until my husband's death,so it's not like I believe you should easily consider kicking a man to the curb because he leaves the toilet seat up! But women need to be encouraged to use the brains God gave them,in their choices. Books like this most certainly won't help. These are the 2 worst romantic fiction I have read, but the first 'Faith' was much worse.

I would much rather read of women who have the sense/intelligence to make better choices, and more realistic development of the relationship.

Please stop writing stories of foolish women falling for men,who don't deserve the time of day! How about making the men worthy to fall in love with,in the first place? Is that too much to ask?

This book IS better than 'Faith' however.

A nice perspective.  Oct 17, 2007
June Kallanhan answers an ad to be a mail order bride and travels to Seattle to meet her intended, Eli Messenger, a young minister working for the famous preacher Isaac Inman. When she arrives in Seattle, June finds that Eli is ill and he dies a few days later. June thought that her calling from God was to be a good wife to Eli, but with his death she is now at a lost as to the purpose of her long journey. However, during the last few days of Eli's short life, June hears him talk about the Reverend Inman's dream of building a magnificent tabernacle. A dream shared by Eli. June believes that this is her mission and she sets out to raise funds for the building of the tabernacle.

Parker Sentell is the handsome brooding friend of Eli. He is in charge of the local timber felling company. He disagrees with the Reverend Inman's wishes to build the ornate tabernacle and belives that the money would be best spent on helping the local orphanage. Parker does all he can to help the orphanage and believes the Revs priorities are misplaced. His anger extends toward June since she is part of the tabernacle cause. But all the while a romance blossoms.

I found this book to be very well done. It was enjoyable to read. June truly was a sweet girl and you wanted the very best for her.

I thought this book had a great Christian message and one that is different from the majority of Christian books (It's refreshing to read about something other than how it is important to have a personal relationship with Jesus--indeed it is! But it is nice to have something different to think on!). I could relate to Parker's feelings toward the tabernacle. While it is nice to give the Lord a beautiful place of worship is it more important to God than caring for His people? Build a big fancy place of worship or feed starving orphans? Hmmmm... What would Jesus do?

Well done, Ms. Copeland! What a fun novel!
