 | Women's Bible Study Focuses on Mary Mar 16, 2007 |
Visitors to my web site frequently write with queries about finding trustworthy Catholic bible studies. With the recent publication of A Marian Bible Study: Bringing Scripture to Life for Moms(Our Sunday Visitor, September, 2006, paperback, 110 pages), Laura Wells provides readers with a bible study experience that is both orthodox and inspirational. The study, which carries both the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur, examines scriptural connections between the Blessed Mother, Old and New Testament characters, and our own lives. Author Wells credits her own study of Marian related scripture to developing a stronger relationship with Mary and encourages others to take up bible study as a means of supporting their own vocations as parents.
Helpful aspects of A Marian Bible Study include its succinct and easy to read format, study of relevant Old and New Testament passages, memory verses, and an inspirational closing prayer for each chapter. In addition, each study segment commences with a personal story by Wells that is designed to relate the scripture topic to today's "real world" predicaments. The book opens with a comprehensive guide filled with suggestions for holding a bible study. Appendices to the book contain answers for all of the study questions and a section of frequently asked questions about the Blessed Mother.
I look forward to gathering with friends to undertake A Marian Bible Study | | | | Great for Non-Moms too! Feb 24, 2007 |
| This book is great for anyone, moms or not, who wants to study and reflect on Mary. It's a wonderfully written Bible study focusing on Mary while also including people and stories from the Old and New Testaments. Mrs. Wells' book is very Bible study friendly. She tells short anecdotes about her life as a mom and wife that tie in with each chapter. She provides great suggestions for hosting a Bible study if you don't know how to start one. She lists song titles that go with each chapter (ask if you can borrow a church hymnal). Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of Mary. The book also includes closing prayers for each chapter and answers to the study questions. It's one of my favorite Bible studies. | | | | A godsend to the uninitiated Feb 13, 2007 |
| I am neither particularly astute in my knowledge of the Bible nor am I a mother. Laura Marie Wells' book, however, provided me with such intimate glimpses into the life of the Virgin Mary that I feel much closer to Mary's most loving heart. Even if readers do not use the text for organized study, much wisdom and insight can be derived from meditating on the heart-warming personal anecdotes and lyrically expressed prayers.I highly recommend this work to all women who look to the Blessed Mother for inspiration in their daily lives. | | | | A much-needed study Feb 2, 2007 |
| This book is unique among Bible studies -- it is written specifically to help women (in this case, mothers) apply Scripture to their own lives. Women's groups and individuals will enjoy the knowledge and wisdom imparted by this gifted author! | | | | A Marian Bible Study: Bringing Scripture to Life for Moms Feb 2, 2007 |
| This is an excellent Bible Study written by a very holy lady and mother! She has captured the love of Our Lady's heart through her own life experiences, as written in this book. It is a great guide for learning more about Jesus through the example of His Mother's love for us. It is easy to read and self-explanatory and will fill you with many graces. Prayer is the key to holiness, and this book will bring you closer to Our Lady, the Mediatrix of all Grace! | | | Write your own review about A Marian Bible Study: Bringing Scripture to Life for Moms
