Item Description... Overview Seven times Jesus spoke from the cross, and each of those seven last words still speaks to us today. Judith Mattison reminds us that the death of Christ is the clearest expression of God's redeeming love for us. The cross, once a sign of defeat and shame, has become a sign of victory over sin and death. The author's meditations on each of Jesus' seven last words are accompanied by hymns and poetry that enlarge the possible meanings of each word, and by questions for reflection or discussion. Filled with messages of grace and love, this book is ideal for devotional reading and group study, or for use as a preaching resource.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Decent reflective readings for Good Friday, not terribly deep Mar 27, 2009 |
This is a relatively short book (as these books on the Seven Sayings of Christ on the cross tend to be). Each section contains a short reflection on one of the sayings, as well as questions to consider and generally some poems or songs. With the questions, it could be used as the basis for a Lenten study.
It's a decent book, but not terribly deep (each of the reflections is only 2-3 pages long). In my opinion, there are other, deeper books on the subject, probably the best being "Death on a Friday Afternoon," by Richard John Neuhaus. "Cross-Shattered Christ," by Stanley Hauerwas, is also a good book on the last words of Christ. | | | Write your own review about Seven Last Words of Christ
