i anticipated this book to be an inspirational look into the mirror for self reflection and a piece of literature that serve as a motivator on repentance. it touched on some very valid and hard lined points, and the biblical references were at most times appropriate especially when relating directly to God's laws, however i thought a good amount of the personal interjections were more opinionated than fact or scripture based and had more of a feel of taking pot shots at people and companies with an ungrounded perspective.
the author comes off to me as a conservative protestant soccer mom who got fired up for whatever reason at folks in her community who call themselves christian and aren't as devout as she is. some of which should serve as a legitimate wakeup call to those who consider themselves followers of Christ. however she unnecessarily goes into depth on a number of political avenues, calling gw bush at one point a brave man, and multiple times condemning those pretty much who vote for any democratic candidate, as well as hammering gays throughout the book.
the one thing that concerned me is that Ludwig wrote with authority at times on areas she apparantly knew little or nothing about. at one point she laid into all those who pray at statues, catholics who pray for intercession, folks that pray to their guardian angels etc.
i think Ludwigs intentions are where they should be, but she might be a little over her head when trying to cover all the areas of condemnable sin. Many of her points bring to light much of what is wrong but percieved as "ok" in society. i give her a lot of credit for doing her homework and having the courage to write this book. i think many people in her church will give her an overwhelming hi 5, but her opinionated judgements will likely turn some people off. i would say that if you are questioning your commitment as a christian, feel luke warm but called to Christ, or want to change an addictive or sinful behavior, talk to a priest, or a pastor and pass on this book by june cleaver.

| This is a powerful book that, at times, makes the reader squirm. Some parts of it are emotionally difficult to read, but it contains information that we need to hear on a regular basis. It reinforces what the Bible tells us. In today's permissive, anything-goes society, we're tempted every day to rebel against God and commit the sins He abhors. It's so easy to forget that God's laws haven't changed; only the world's skewed interpretation of them has. We need books like this to get us back on track.
