| I thought this was going to be a book that really explained all the things that Oprah said on her show and biblical responses to that. And it did, in a way-just not the way I expected. It was written as a ficitonal story and they added in quotes from Oprah and then the characters in the book responded. However, it was not a very good story and these people in this book were seemed crazily obsessed with Oprah in order for the authors to keep giving examples of what she had discussed on her show. I was very disappointed and ended up not even completing my reading of the book. I honestly expected a little more from Josh McDowell. If Paul were writing a gospel to our culture, then this should be the topic! The issues of Truth and popular Spirituality discussed in the book are very close to my heart. Our culture is in desperate need of Truth, and I thank the authors so much for providing a tool for people like me to help bring light into the darkness. This book has given me a the more in depth information that I needed to have real conversations with many of my friends and family members who have traded in their Christian faith for the new spiritual pluralism with a Christian label on its cover. I believe that I echo your heart when I say that for the genuine believer, it is heart breaking to watch the applause of false teachers who rob people of the beauty of knowing our Savior Jesus Christ!
Thank you again to the authors for writing this book. I wish that EVERY American Christian would read it!

A book that has a unique apologetic approach to addressing the Spirituality that is promoted by Oprah Winfrey and her many guests she's had over the years. The book is a dialogue of two women that are huge fans of Oprah and their journey to find the truth.
Pantheism and Eastern Spirituality has been steadily rising in the West, thanks in part to Oprah, and many of her guests, friends and book club books she promotes through her TV shows. New Age spiritualists keep coming with every New Season, promoting a new age spirituality and pluralism that many may not truly know what is being served up theologically and why these teachings are not consistent and contradict Christianity. If you are unfamiliar with how Oprah and her guests beliefs differ from orthodox Christian beliefs this book wil give you some basics on the theology and doctrines being taught and how to Stand Firm in the Faith and discern the differences.
Books and Authors such as "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne's, James Ray, Elizabeth Gilbert author of "Eat,Pray,Love, Echhart Tolle author of "A New Earth", and Marianne Williamson, and others, literally were skyrocketed to fame with appearances on the Oprah Show, and their book sales are in the millions.
Oprah draws millions of followers due to her likeable personality, her generosity and down-to-earth charm. With it being reported in the news today of Oprah's possible consideration of a move of her program to Los Angeles, she may have more influence then ever. This is a good book to give to a friend that may be dabbling with New Age spirituality. There are also discussion questions in the back of the book which makes it great for study groups. After reading the book, there could not be enough said about discerning what Oprah Winfrey and her guests are promoting, and it is consistent with what the teaching found in Scripture says to do: 1 John 4:1 "Beloved do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." | | | | A Refreshing Read Nov 1, 2009 |
| I am just over halfway finished with "O" God and decided to stop and write a review... I thoroughly enjoy the style and flow of this book. The conversational tone and friendly setting make it a light and enjoyable read even when discussing some very deep and serious issues. This book speaks very candidly and openly about the gospel message of Jesus Christ and yet does so in a very loving and non-confrontational way. I find it refreshing to read a book that speaks the truth about Christ unapologetically and boldly yet respectfully and compassionately. If more Christians would engage culture, like the main character Avatari, I truly believe that more and more people would come to know Jesus.
