Item Description... The Lutheran confessions call the doctrine of justification by faith alone the "chief article" of the Christian faith. This engaging volume, like the notable scholar it honors, probes the depths of the doctrine of justification and develops its implications for the life of today's church. The perspectives and backgrounds of the contributing scholars also make this book a significant ecumenical event. |

 | So What if He's Soft on Sanctification? May 5, 2006 |
| I don't have the theological qualifications or the cojones to attempt a real critique of this festschrift for one of the great (and, sadly, late) warriors for the Article of Justification at the heart of what it means to be a Christian, so I'll say simply that this anthology shows that Justification is a concern that is incredibly broad and deep, and never boring. "By Faith Alone" shows that justification by faith alone for the sake of Christ isn't owned by Lutherans, but that Forde understood and explained it best of all among Lutherans of the 20th century. | | | | Not just more of Forde from different sources Feb 20, 2006 |
| After reading all of Gerharde Forde's books at least twice, some as many as six times, I was anticipating reading other men with a similar perspective on the gosdpel of the grace of God who had been affected by his ministry. With very few exceptions, I was severely disappointed. They are either men coming from a different perspective or they did not learn their lessons well. If you are anticipating more of Forde from other sources you will be disapponted as well. However, if you are looking for a wide range of perspectives on what Forde preached, though not necessarily with a similar understanding, then you may appreciate the book, as the men are well-recognized scholars. I'm going to try to sell mine. | | | Write your own review about By Faith Alone: Essays on Justification in Honor of Gerhard O. Forde
