| I have been a John G. Miller fan for several years but this book far exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for 47 insightful and practical ways to immediately improve yourself, your department, or your organization, then this is the book for you. As I read the book, I kept thinking these ideas should be common sense; but I also realized that all too often, they are not so common in organizations. Every person at every level in any organization will benefit from the wisdom presented in Outstanding! I've conducted management training sessions for 9+ years now and have made John Miller's previous books, QBQ! and Flipping The Switch, recommended reading and training material. You can now add Outstanding! to that list.
John has a way of writing that encourages people who typically aren't too fond of business-type books to find the time to read his books. He's an expert at using real life experiences and stories to illustrate his various points and topics.
For those who've been involved with personnel training, you'll appreciate that John uses humor and makes his content entertaining without losing substance.
Outstanding!, just like his other books, is an easy read but is filled with excellent educational material that benefits all levels of management- from executives to front-line supervisors. It has 47 short chapters that quickly get to the point and make you think. I found myself saying throughout the book, "I've had to deal with that" or, "I can relate to this" or, "I wish I would have done that!"
John's also not afraid to tell it like it really is. How many other business books have you read with a chapter titled, "Fire Customers (If Necessary)!". Any of your associates who've ever had to deal with the "customer from hell" will appreciate it. But it makes sense. As John writes, "...standing up for your people in the face of mistreatment by customers makes our staff feel truly valued."

| I just finished Outstanding and it really was...Outstanding. What a great collection of principles by which to lead a business, team or non-profit. The real-life examples in each chapter help to not only illustrate the point, but also to demonstrate practical application. While the book is a quick and easy read, I can see using it as an incredible resource for leadership training. We will want to examine each Outstanding principle through the lens of what it could and should look like in our organization. The content of this book is a very practical and common sense approach to being successful. The book reads in a way that makes everything so clear and you walk away with a purpose and ideas you can use immediately! The stories in each of the 47 chapters are very relevant and in tune with each topic. They are great illistrations and examples that clearly show what exceptional companies are doing differntly. One of the best reads since the "QBQ, Question Behind the Question" book came out!
