Item Description... In the aftermath of the Mount St. Helens eruption and the subsequent glacier slide and mudflows, there remained a geologic gold mine for earth scientists. No natural disasters in recent history could compare with the variety of process which resulted from this tectonic and volcanic event. As creation scientists have carefully studied this geological phenomenon, they have concluded that Mount St. Helens accomplished the same sort of geologic work that biblical creationists attribute to Noah's flood. While this explosion was certainly much smaller in scale and intensity, many lessons were learned through this occurrence that help us understand the unobservable past. Journey back to this catastrophic event with scientists Dr. Steve Austin and Dr. John Morris and see what was discovered as they reconstruct the sequence of earthquakes, eruptions, avalanches, mudflows, and other geologic processes and unveil their fascinating research findings |

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Footnotes, Endnotes: Darwin Didn't use them either. Aug 11, 2010 |
| I have just bought this book, after seeing a tv documentary on the explosion with many accompanying photos and compelling explanations. I am put out by the reviewer(s) who suggest that there were no footnotes and endnotes at the end of the book or in it. How does this support an argument against these two author's findings? If they use scientific method and its suppositions to make their points, then isn't this enough to show that they are scientists? It is established fact that Charles Darwin did not submit his "Origins" to any of the scientific journals of the time. How come this guy got through the great scientific net of accountability? I think we know the answer to that one and I guess that the reviewers in question who are unhappy with the two present authors have no qualms about this error. | | | | Evidence for Young Creationists Apr 29, 2010 |
John Morris and Steven A. Austin offer evidence for a young earth from the powerful explosion of Mount St. Helens (May 18, 1980). The MSH eruption produced streams of mud, massive covering from ash, much of life extinguished, and unforeseen geographical evidence including volcanic data that lead the writers to a Young Creationists viewpoint (ICR, AIG).
The writers in an easy-to-understand style reveal:
- The geographic volcanic cataclysm that "recreated the process" which helped form the astonishing wonder of the Grand Canyon. - The volcanic process resulted in widespread death that later left the ingredients for new life to sprout up - Rapid formation of geographic strata, tree deposits (pre-petrified), and spectacular land features
If you haven't read any young creationists works, if are a skeptic searching for unpopular positions, or if you like to read fascinating religious perspective, then pick up "Footprints in the Ash."
A DVD that compliments the book was produced by Austin: "Mount St. Helens: Explosive Evidence for Catastrophe." God Does Exist!: Defending the faith using presuppositional apologetics, evidence, and the impossibility of the contrary | | | | Amazing Aftermath to Mt. St. Helens Eruptions Jan 3, 2010 |
Geologists make Amazing observations in the aftermath of eruption!! The authors do a great job here, clearly & carefully presenting the results of catastrophic events upsetting many long held geological beliefs. The hard evidences are there to be seen before our eyes!! This book is readable by everyday folks, as well as providing "meat" for the professional. Steve Austin is currently on my Hit Parade of geologists & authors. The book itself has an attractive format & is very well made. I'm really glad I spent the money on it.
For anyone interested in Geology / Earth Science -I also recommend his texts & DVD on the Grand Canyon. These are real eye openers on the cutting edge of science.
The DVD you will be wanting along with this book is entitled: "Mt. St. Helens : Explosive Evidence For Catastrophe". Invite some friends over & break out the popcorn. | | | | This Book Is Not Serious Science In The Accepted Sense. Dec 4, 2009 |
THIS IS NOT A SCIENTIFIC BOOK! We want to provide a clear warning to people of a serious scientific bent -- this book is "Creation Science," not a scientific work in the accepted sense. We do not happen to accept "Creation Science" as scientific. We bought this book assuming it was based on what we consider to be actual science without very carefully reading the other reviews, but in our own defense only one review even uses the word "Christian," which might have been the tip-off. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SERIOUS SCIENCE, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. If, on the other hand, you sincerely believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible and that the world was created by God at 9 AM on October 3 in 4004 BC, this book is for you.
We have nothing against religion, any religion, or Christianity, or even so-called "Creation Science" (except insofar as we do not personally accept "Creationism" as any sort of "science" whatsoever), but we do have something against mislabeling. The two Ph.D.s who co-wrote the book are identified as "Creationist geologists." While they may actually hold their purported degrees, they provide not one single footnote, end note or reference to any sort of scientific documentation, as any real scientist is required to do. The only references provided are Biblical. The pictures are really swell, though. You can buy it for the photographs if you're not into "Creation", um, "Science." | | | | Excellent Nov 18, 2009 |
| I was very impressed with this book. In short compass, Morris confronts a number of old-earth arguments with observable facts from the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption - hundreds of feet of Grand Canyon type strata deposited in a matter of days; canyons cut deep into bedrock with the release of waters from Spirit Lake; the first stages of possible coal formation begun and could result in coal if Spirit Lake were covered by lava from a new explosion. And we Christians have to be the ones to apologize for faith in creationism and catastrophism (Great Flood) when the observable facts are on our side?? I also thought the photography, design, and quality of the book were excellent. A very beautiful and thought-provoking book. | | | | New geological thought Sep 23, 2009 |
| I was at a museum and saw a display that talked about how the Mount St. Helens eruption and after-effects had many interesting and surprising results, showing how such dramatic events can result in geological structures than many would think would take millions of years to form. I was interested in learning more about this, and this book delivered. The book has many great color photos and diagrams and is careful about precise science (it's written by two Ph.D.s) while clearly defining terms so that the lay reader can easily follow. | | | Write your own review about Footprints in the Ash: The Explosive Story of Mount St. Helens
