“This is the book I wanted to write, but was too busy simplifying my life. I laughed out loud and am provoked to action. Well done, Joanne.” -Lisa Ryan
“If you find yourself living a full life rather than simply living life to the fullest, this book is for you.” -Lisa Whelchel
Story Behind the Book
“Simplicity is not just about cooking a month’s worth of meals in one day or learning how to speed clean your kitchen,” says Joanne Heim. “Women long for a better quality of life, but we wonder just how to get it. In Living Simply , I ponder what it takes to slow down and downsize while living in a culture that supersizes everything from french fries to SUVs. I want more meaning and less stuff, and simplicity is a means to a better quality of life. Choosing this isn’t about turning my back on the world or lowering my expectations, but about making wise choices and finding the abundant life promised by Jesus.”
Joanne Heim has been a publicist, senior copywriter, and editor in the Christian publishing industry for ten years. She is the author of several books with her husband, Toben, including Happily Ever After: A Real-Life Look at Your First Year of Marriage . She has also written numerous Bible study guides and been the featured guest on many radio programs, including Focus on the Family and Moody’s Midday Connection . Now a full-time mom, Joanne’s schedule is filled with the activities she most enjoys: caring for her husband and two young daughters, friendships, ballet, knitting, and writing. |

If you're looking for a set of how-tos, re: living simply, this isn't the book for you. This is a girlfriend having tea with you and sharing her heart about what has worked for her family and challenging you to find some options which work for your family.
A favorite: When Joann shares her Happy I Love You Day experiences. Another reason I like this book is that Joann realizes that the Father made us all differently, and simplicity, while similar in all of us, isn't cookie-cutter sameness.
I also love how she quietly embraces His teachings to teach us. I feel like you need to think and mull over this book a bit after you've read it. It's not a quick fix. It's a way of living. | | | | Fantastic! Oct 23, 2008 |
| This is an amazing book. It is refreshing and full of inspiring thoughts and ideas. I know I will be returning to this book year after year when I need a pick me up or need to get back on track in my simple living journey. | | | | Life Changing Oct 22, 2008 |
| LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! It's changed my life (literally)!!! Joanne offers sound Biblical advice and practical ways to simplify chaos!! Actually, it's also the perfect book club choice! It's got something for EVERYONE! | | | | Inspiring! Oct 22, 2008 |
I LOVED this book and could not put it down. It is what I have needed for so long. We are reaping the benefits of choosing to live more simply. We are putting into practice, "observing the Sabbath" and it has been such an added benefit. If you are looking for practical, refreshing ideas.....READ THIS BOOK!
