Romans 12 as a Way of Life  May 31, 2010
I've often thought that Romans 12 offered a "rule of life" for the Christian, and that you could base your whole life off this one chapter of the Bible.

Evidently, Chip Ingram thinks so too, and in his new book "Living on the Edge" he lays it out for us, point by point. I highly recommend taking this book in small sections and doing some of the exercises it offers. Romans is thought by many, including me, to be a letter that could get you the whole Gospel if it were all you had of the New Testament.

But in addition to teaching us what to believe, we can learn how to LIVE.

Surrender your whole life, you body, your everything, to God, and learn how to do it. I've had some occasions over the past few years where I've basically just sat and read this one chapter of the Bible in it's entirety every day for a month or two. I recommend this (obviously, in addition to regular readings), and Chip's book is a great way to make this work for you as a way of living, not just thinking.

More Chip Ingram. If he works for you, go for it.  May 28, 2010
Chip has great stuff on parenting. He has worked on living spiritually in his own life, has some great lessons learned, and so this book might help others do the same.

Heads-Up: this is normal, from-the-Bible Christianity. This is not a book, or a person, who believes that "spirituality" means that you go to yoga once a month, and have Buddhist sayings posted around your desk, and decorate according to a Fung sui book you got a Books-A-Million or Half Price Books because it was on sale.

Compelling analysis and teaching & personal application of the Christian life at its essence  May 17, 2010
Compelling analysis and teaching & personal application of the Christian life at its essence.

I have always been somewhat intimidated by the dense theology of the book of Romans and was intrigue by this author's proposal that Romans 12 is the one chapter in the bible that most encapsulates the Christian faith-life. I think that the author delivers on that promise with thoughtful teaching, step-by-step analysis of the scripture, real life examples, and modern day application. It breaks down each verse and concept slowly, and challenges you to funnel your life experiences and perspectives through the screen of scripture. I found that this book helped me as a long-time believer to realize afresh the potential depth of my faith in Christ. At the same time I felt that it was a great book for a new believer (or study group with the additional video curriculum). The basic foundations of faith in Christ are so well defined.

R12 by Chip Ingram  May 9, 2010
This book, along with the small group study, was a life changing experience for me and helped me move to the next step of my Christian walk. Highly recommended for who want to see how to live out the Romans 12 Christian lifestyle.

A Step by Step Guide to Romans 12  Apr 30, 2010
"Living on the Edge" by Chip Ingram was a wonderful read. Chip takes us to Romans 12 to open up insight into this powerful chapter in the Bible. There are five sections that include:

How to Give God What He Wants The Most - which I found especially helpful personally.
How to Get God's Best for Your Life
How to Come to Grips with the Real You
How to Experience Authentic Community
How to Overcome the Evil Aimed at You

These sections have several chapters in each. In the Preface "Is This Book For You?" If you are spiritually stuck or tired of the spiritual status quo or you really wish you knew what God wanted from you, then this book is for you. So what does Roman 12 mean? Chip answers it is God's executive summary of the profile of an authentic Christ-follower. I think that sums up this book. If you want to be an authentic Christ-follower, this book opens up what Romans 12 is and how we should follow the real path of Christ.

One powerful section included at the end of every chapter is called, It's Your Move, with the words (concerning God) TRUST ME - Think, Reflect, Understand, Surrender, Take action, Motivation, Encourage someone. Chip gives advice for each word such as in Chapter 16 in It's Your Move, the word:
Reflect - Why do you think Jesus made such a point of focusing on our relationships with one another?

Or the words also in Chapter 16 in It's Your Move:
Take action - Declare war on isolation and superficial relationships in your life! Write out John 13:34-35 on a 3x5 card and commit to living it out as God leads you this week.

"Living on the Edge" is a great book to help unfold the mysterious journey we are all on as Christians.
