For those not familiar with the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB):
The HCSB is MORE literal than the NIV. On the other hand, it is LESS literal than the NKJV, the ESV, or the NASB. Bottom line: a fine translation that is both accurate and easy to read.
Also, it avoids the recent trend of "gender-neutral" language. This is a good thing, in my estimation. (You are free to disagree, of course!) :)
If translations like the NRSV, TNIV, CEV, NCV, NLT, GNT, etc. are not your "cup of tea," the HCSB will definitely be to your liking. It does not employ the method of "dynamic equivalence."
If, however, you tend to like translations more along the lines of the NIV, NKJV, ESV, or NASB, you are certain to like the HCSB. It will be a valuable addition to your Bible collection. | | | | Excellent Graduate Gift! Dec 16, 2005 |
