Item Description... In this inspirational and entertaining book, Gary Graf brings his great talent for relating large moral and religious truths in ways that the rest of us can understand. And God Said, "Tee It Up " is the third book from Graf that uses sports metaphors to reveal the mystical connections between sports and Spirit, links and Lord, game and God. This book relies on the eighteen holes of a golf course (plus the nineteenth hole back in the clubhouse) as a framework to illuminate comparisons between the ball and the Word, grand slams and Gospels, and Saint Andrew--the course and the man. |

| Very enjoyable reading for a Christian golfer! Makes learning about golf and Christianity fun. | | | | Sport and Spirit Mar 5, 2009 |
Claiming to be neither a biblical scholar nor much of a golfer, Graf has written a book about shared mystical connections between "sport and Spirit, links and Lord, game and God." He begins with the significance of the number four in the Bible and golf: four evangelists, four major tournaments of the Grand Slam, and four big names in the sport (Ben, Arnie, Jack, and Tiger). Each set of four, Graf writes, "elicits memories of miracles."
The First Hole chapter provides a sample of the book's framework. Graf explains that the phrase from Genesis "In the beginning" leads to numerous "connections between holes and holy." And the range of trees and plants created by God "(give) golf course architects plenty to choose from when planning 18 holes." The author goes on to estimate the number of species of "birdies in the sky," fish in the sea, wild animals, and insects. Next he shares spectacular numbers in the game of golf: a drive of nearly 400 yards and Tiger Woods' career winnings ($120 million plus).
Graf's remaining chapters relate more passages from scripture to unique features of notable golf courses and stories of famous and not so famous players. The breadth of this work is revealed in an index of references to roughly 70 courses around the world, 100 golfers and course designers, and 50 holes and hazards mentioned in the book. Though non-golfers might miss the point, those with an interest in the game are likely to be wowed by And God Said Tee It Up.
