Click Here For Sample Chapter The Western media declares that "at its core, Islam is moderate and tolerant of others" (New York Times Magazine). Author Mark A. Gabriel, former professor of Islamic history at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, disagrees. He says that terrorists are practicing Islam just as Muhammad intended. As a child, Gabriel grew up in a Muslim family in Egypt and was heavily indoctrinated. By the age of twelve he had memorized the entire Qur'an. He went on to become a top student at the most prestigious Islamic university in the world, Al-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt. As a student and professor of Islamic history, he rubbed shoulders with those who are at the forefront of propagating the tenets of Islamic terrorism. He actually took classes with Sheik Umar Abd al-Rahman, who was convicted of masterminding the 1993 World Trade Center bomb attack and is now in prison. In his book Gabriel explains: How Islam was influenced by the warlike Arabian culture of the 7th century Atrocities committed by Muhammad in the name of Allah The story of the Egyptian student who came to study education in America and went on to write the first handbook of terrorism in the twentieth century The prominence of jihad (war against infidels) in Islamic theology How Egyptian fundamentalists murdered and robbed Christians to raise funds for terrorism The difference between a moderate Muslim and a fundamentalist Muslim For the readers of this book, the motive behind Islamic world activity will no longer be a mystery. Each action is obviously rooted in the philosophy of Islam. Now both the Christian and the political world must decide how to react to Muhammad's revelation.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Not convinced...but book certainly raises questions Mar 29, 2007 |
I generally like to get a feel for both sides of the argument when reading a controversial book such as this. I must say, though, I find the critical retorts here to be lacking, at best. Complaints against this book are limited to personal attacks on the author, "straw dummy" arguments, and accusatory finger pointing at Christianity.
There are two key points that stood out to me in Gabriel's book:
-Contradictions in the Quran are alleviated through this idea of "progressive revelation," with the anti- "ahl al kitab" verses coming in Muhammad's Medina years.
-Extremists (such as Salafists/Wahhabists, etc) are the only Muslims practicing 100% Islam.
The first point is of particular interest to me. I have read the Quran (Ali translation) and any unbiased person must admit the idea of progressive revelation DOES tend to alleviate many of the seeming contradictions. The downside, of course, is that the picture thus becomes just as Gabriel describes it - bleak.
I generally don't look at the ACTIONS OF PEOPLE to help define a religion, as people (of any religion) are imperfect, emotional, illogical, and inconsistent. I believe it's always best to go to the SOURCE of a religion to determine its value. Therefore, even though I find Gabriel's book to be far from convincing, I think the questions he raises (specifically, the idea that progressive revelation shows that the current goal of Islam is forced worldwide submission to Allah) warrant an answer.
Any takers?

| After reading this book if you are not concerned about this country and the world you have your head in the sand. This book explaines exactly what is going on and the thinking in the islamic world. We act now or we are in trouble period.... | | | | Opened my eyes! Mar 12, 2007 |
I originally bought this book looking for answers about Islamic terrorism and also the obvious hatred of these terrorists for Jews and Christians.
I was shocked and amazed to hear firsthand information from a former Muslim about the roots of hatred in the Islamic belief system. This is no run of the mill everyday Muslim, Gabriel was a student of the foremost school of Islamic theology in Egypt and was born and raised a devout follower of Mohammed's Quran.
After reading this title, I sincerely believe that as a nation we are under severe threat, and that the entire world is threatened by this so called religion of "peace and love". If we do not open our eyes and react accordingly, then radical Islam will continue to spread its hatred like a cancer.
Please read this book and then pass it on to every person you know that will read it. At the very least it should be considered in your quest for the truth about Islam. | | | | Islam Primer Mar 8, 2007 |
| The basics of the Islam religion are spelled out by an Arab scholar who completed nine years of studying the core beliefs of Islam. You will learn of the beginnings of Islam when it was weak and peaceful and how it grow to where it is now: strong and imperialistic. This book is a "must read" as the goal of Islam is to fulfill the jihad of worldwide submission. It explains that because the Jews and Christian are the most difficult to convert to Islam, they are its primary target. | | | | Ridiculous Feb 2, 2007 |
Mark A. Gabriel, "Ph.D." is a liar. He is not a real PhD. If you don't believe me, just check out his "alma mater" - Florida Christian University (FCU). The "school" is not accredited and here's what the FCU website says about it's founder, the Rev. Dr. Harold L. Shindoll, ThD.
"Dr. Shindoll received his education at various schools and seminaries and his Doctorate of Theology Degree from Florida Theological Seminary, Inc. where he was an instructor of many Biblical subjects. He also served as the Founder and the President of the Seminary."
So he received his "Doctorate" from the school that he founded. That's a neat trick!
This book is filled with contradictions. Any discerning reader will have no trouble spotting them. Don't waste you money. Go to the library.
