 | Not for me.... Jun 7, 2010 |
An Honest Love by Kathleen Fuller is the second book in the A Hearts of Middlefield books. I wanted to like this book I really did...it was very well written and it flowed well. However, the story itself was a bit boring for me. I hate to say that is this is the first book that I have read by this author, but I just had a hard time staying in the story and finishing it. I walked away so many times and had to force myself to come back.
The story is supposed to be about the developing love between Anna and Luke. Lukas is a few years younger than Anna which is really no big deal, but Anna has trust issues from a previous relationship and uses whatever excuse she can think of to keep Lukas at a distance. My problem is Anna, she is keeping one important secret from Lukas...Anna's mother and the readers can see that this is a disaster in the making and it just made me so annoyed with Anna!!!!
Although the back of the book only talks about Anna and Lukas this story has a very big second story and that is the developing love between Elisabeth and Aaron. I think this story completely overshadows that of Lukas and Anna and to be honest I enjoyed this story more.
The overall pace of the book was just too slow for me, but I am sure there will be those out there that absolutely love it, so if you enjoyed the first book in the series please read this one. It is just not for me. Again, I think the author is a great writer and I would probably read another one of her books in the hopes that the storyline will focus more on one set of characters and the pace is picked up. | | | | Great for Amish Fiction Lovers Jun 5, 2010 |
| I did not like this book as much as the first one in the series (which I loved), but I did like it. The writing was great. The author did a great job of portraying the Amish's beliefs. I *loved* the secondary character's romance, maybe even more than Anna's. I would recommend this book to someone who loves Amish fiction. | | | | Again - one story too many in this book. | It is my hope that Kathleen sees this and takes my review under advisement. I very much enjoy her writing and characters, however having two stories in this one book is distracting. You'll be reading along and all of a sudden she'll switch to the second story. Which is too bad as both stories in the book could stand up on their own. | | | | An Honest Love May 5, 2010 |
I don't like giving a book a bad review but I have to be honest so here I go: I didn't care for An Honest Love. It wasn't that it wasn't written well (because it was) or that I didn't like the characters (I did), it just wasn't my cup of tea. It moved a little slow for me. But if you like Amish romance or if this sounds interesting to you then give it a try. Just because I didn't care for it doesn't mean you won't.

"An Honest Love" is the second book in Kathleen Fuller's "Hearts of Middlefield" series. I did not read the first book and was still able to fully understand and enjoy this one.
I liked the main characters Anna and Lukas which are described in the summary of the book. However, I found it unbelievable that Anna would have kept the secret that she did from Lukas until after they were married. It was hard reading some of the things that resulted from her secrecy because you knew it could have all been avoided if Anna would have told the truth. That may have been the author's intent, but it was still frustrating.
My favorite part of the book was another storyline that isn't mentioned in the book's summary. There was a romance between two younger characters, Elizabeth and Aaron, I really loved these characters. The story of how they start as friends and then fall in love was sweet and entertaining. Although there were parts of Anna's story that I didn't like, the author more than made up for it with the story of Elizabeth and Aaron's romance.
