Item Description...

Would you suffer persecution, poverty, and prison for Christ?

Would you endure cruel tortures that take your mind and body to the brink of death and beyond?

Would you watch your children suffering for their faith and urge them to remain faithful to Christ?

Would you endure inhuman tortures and "hold fast the profession of your faith without wavering" (Hebrews 10:23)?

Would you stand boldly and without shame and confess Christ as your Lord, to your own and to your family's peril?

Two thousand years of martyrs
For nearly two-thousand years, courageous men and women have been tortured and killed because of their confessions of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

The New Foxe's Book of Martyrs tells their stories. Stories of heroic courage and overcoming faith. Stories of love of God and Christ. Stories of the amazing grace of God that enabled men, women, and children to endure persecutions and often horrible deaths.

Foxe¿s last revision in 1570

Foxe's last revision of his Book of Martyrs was in 1570. In the 18th century others added to his book. But Christians have continued to be persecuted and martyred every year since then. More Christians were martyred in this century alone than in all the past centuries combined.

The New Foxe's Book of Martyrs tells their stories from A.D. 37 to 1997 in modern English, and includes new historical data that clarifies and harmonizes people, places, and times.

The New Foxe's Book of Martyrs is the most up-to-date version of Foxe's book ever published. It is essential reading for the study of Christian persecution in Foxe's day and in ours

Reviews - What do our customers think?
The New Foxe's Book of Martyrs   Mar 12, 2007
This is a wonderful book. Every Christian should have one of these. This book is also an excellent historical account of the dark days of the church and what Christians are going through today. As a history buff it is a great read.

Triumph of Love of God Over Power Politics  Dec 27, 2006
Gripping and insightful, it delivers more than the story of martyrs for the faith. Yes, it's stylized writing for its time and narrowly focuses on a subject designed specifically to encourage the pious protestant through hardship. This classic study is also a fascinating revelation of human behavior and power politics. Focused mainly on the realm of Bloody Mary, it reveals control freaks at their worst - forcing not just what you do, but what you think. As we watch this abysmal pattern of behavior playing out again across the middle east, it's more timely reading than you'd think. It's profoundly moving and highly recommended.

Nice read but beware this is not a word for word reprint of the original work  Dec 22, 2006
John Foxe's Book of Martyrs is indeed a classic of Christian literature. John Foxe was born in 1517 and died in 1587. John Foxe documented the persecutions of Christians from the foundation of the church through his time. Outside of the Bible itself, this is one of the few books every Christian should read. From time to time the book has been updated to cover generations John would not live to see. While this book is a worthy read - be aware that this is not a faithful word for word reprint of the original works but as the cover says a rewrite. If you are interested in a rendition which remains more faithful to the the original author's words, look for a reprinted edition edited by (co-author) William Forbush.

I have a copy of this book...  Dec 10, 2006
I own a copy of this book....over 400 years after it was first published. According to the Introduction, John Foxe died in A.D. 1587; seventeen years after he published this work.

He had to write and edit this by hand because a typewriter hadn't been invented yet. Foxe's Book of Martyrs is over 400 typed-pages. Imagine the effort it took. The amount of ink and paper. The cramped, tired hand. If he wrote outside, he was susceptible to distractions. If he wrote inside, he may at times have had only a flickering fire light. All for what? It took him years to complete with no guarantee that it would ever be finished, or published. All for future generations. He most likely couldn't have conceived that the Lord would tarry at least four hundred more years.

Thank God for this book. I now know history that I had NEVER been told before. Had I not read this book, I would never have understood the true positions of the Pope and the Protestants.

I visited the Vatican and the Tower of London in 2004, but only went as a tourist. I didn't have any idea of the significance of the Tower of London. What evils took place. And the Pope! The wool was taken away from my eyes because of what John Foxe thought necessary to document. Thank You, Lord, for this book!

Excellent source of facts regarding early Christians and the suffering they endured for their beliefs.
