Item Description... Overview God¿s Word was meant to be read.
But more than that, it was meant to be understood. It was first written in the language of the people¿of fishermen, shopkeepers, and carpenters. The Message gets back to that: You can read it and understand it.
In The Message Remix, there are new verse-numbered paragraphs that will help you study and find favorite passages. Or, you can just read it like a book and let the narrative impact you. After all, it is God¿s story, with its heroes and villains, conflicts and resolutions. Either way, it¿s God¿s Word¿the Truth¿in a user-friendly form.
Publishers Description The Message//REMIX is distinctive because the text is shaped by the hand of a pastor, Eugene H. Peterson. It features expanded introductions to each book of the Bible that explain the purpose of the book, who wrote it, and for whom it was written. The introductions help set the stage for the book and help you understand each book's unique message. A reading Bible in contemporary language, The Message//REMIX also has a unique verse-numbering system, charts and maps, and a topical guide for students. Trim size: 5 3/16 x 7 1/8 |

 | Intentionally Altered Meanings Feb 22, 2007 |
Several passages are paraphrased in a way that their meanings are totally off-base. For one example, look at Matthew 18:17.
Proper translations:
"...But if he refuses to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector." New King James Version
"...and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector." New International Version
The Message:
"...If he won't listen to the church, you'll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer God's forgiving love."
In case you were wondering, Jesus' audience would have treated a heathen/pagan or a tax collector as an outcast/outsider or a traitor. I have no idea how Peterson came up with "start over...confront...and offer God's forgiving love". As a high school English teacher, I would not accept this as a proper paraphrase from my teenage students. It's actually quite pathetic, in my humble opinion. | | | | A pleasant change Feb 10, 2007 |
| As someone who has "heard the Bible stories" so many times, I have finally succumbed to "The Message" phenomenon. (I had initial misgivings - could this possible take the place of Bible reading on a daily basis?) Despite my original protests, I actually like it! It's made the Bible a new experience for me. Highly recommended. | | | | Not standard size Feb 8, 2007 |
| This is a great bible. My only regret is that I did not pay attention to the size dimensions of the book. Just know that this is not a standard size book. | | | | It's a book and its a counselor! Jan 18, 2007 |
The Message Remix is awesome! Basically a biblical languages teacher named Eugene Peterson accumulated all the information and interpretations of the bible, analyzed it and created a paraphrased bible so that those who read it could understand in todays terms everything that God tries to tell us through His Word. The reason it's called "remix" is because it also lists each individual verse that is paraphrased. For instance, he may paraphrase the chapter of Psalm 23 as a whole to basically get the message across, but he goes into even further detail to mention every single verse so the reader can see how it backs up that message. The original Message Bible, didn't include the verse numbers, but The Message Remix was revised later on to include verse numbers to make it more of a message study bible. With all the research, interpretation and analysis, it took 10 years to complete. I've noticed that many books I read that are written by ministers often reference The Message Bible. I highly recommend it because since it helps make the scripture more applicable, it helps me to understand God's character better and makes the bible much more fun to read.

| Very easy to read and understand. You feel like you are reading the Bible, but it is in much easier language to understand. Very good for adolescents to read and understand. | | | Write your own review about Message/Remix Bible-HC
