Item Description... Not just a history book, this little gem makes a great reader, and what a wonderful way to introduce young children to their American history, with 52 short biographical sketches sure to catch a child's imagination and with the charming illustrations from the 1895 edition. This volume includes stories about war heroes, statesmen, explorers, inventors, writers, artists, scientists, and just plain ordinary people who made a difference. The lives of these men and women wonderfully illustrate the virtues children need to learn and are a great introduction to American history. |

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Books like this should never go out of print Jun 29, 2007 |
This book is more than I expected. What a wonderful collection of stories, nice illustrations. Stories of Great Americans is a great introduction to American History for PK and K children.
This review is for the book published by "Lost Classics Book Co.", 1st edition (September 1, 2001), ISBN-10: 0965273520. | | | | no illustrations - disappointed Jul 12, 2006 |
I'm very disappointed that this book does not have the illustrations. It says "illustration" where the illustrations should be. The description I read about the book did not say that there weren't going to be illustrations and you have to actually click "look inside the book" and go to the first story to see that the illustrations are missing. I think that even the authro would be highly disappointed with the lack of illustrations as he considered them to be very important when teaching history to young children.
| | | | THIS EDITION DOES NOT HAVE ILLUSTRATIONS Jul 6, 2006 |
The paperback (yellow) edition does not have pictures, rather it has placeholders for the images (as if there were an error in typesetting.)
The text content, however, is fantastic for children.
GET THE HARDCOVER, (RED) EDITION - IT HAS THE CORRECT ILLUSTRATIONS. | | | | Great Book! Jan 19, 2002 |
| My 5-year-old son received this book as a Christmas present. He started it two days ago, and he has been not been able to put the book down. He even wants to read during mealtimes. He also insisted on bringing it to Show N'Tell today. This is a wonderful book for early readers, not only because the stories are educational and interesting, but they are written in a short and simple manner. | | | | Great reading for little kids! Jul 29, 2000 |
| While the publisher says this book is for 9-12 year olds, my 5- and 6-year olds love it! The stories are short - most can be read in a few minutes. They are written in a very exciting, but simple style that grips the attention. It's a hard book to put down. Stories discuss such great Americans as Washington, Franklin, Fulton, Kit Carson, Audubon, Goodyear, and more. I can't recommend this book enough for young readers. It's also suitable for those who are learning to read and want to read something interesting. | | | Write your own review about Stories of Great Americans
