BEYOND COMPARE WITH ANY PRAYER or EVANGELISM MANUAL  Apr 7, 2006
I have my 10-year old copy and am now on my 12th copy in giving when people ask. This book by Pastor Ed Silvoso is exciting for reasons too numerous to mention (gotta get the book!). I bought book in '96 from a conference the author taught at and now my copy is worn, dog-eared, flagged, underlined, circled and margin noted. This is so valuable for anyone who is curious about spiritual warfare or how to pray according to God's heartbeat, right down through all the scriptures and details for evangelism. You can pick this book up if you know nothing and almost everything and you will still gain and benefit in your understanding of who God is and what He says. A 10-star top-notch book!

Some Strong Points, Some Very Weak  Apr 9, 2005
I concur with the reviewer before me that much of what Silvoso writes is not biblical. He takes texts out of context in his chapters on dealing with specific strongholds and he does place too much emphasis on territorial spirits and demonic activities rather than the power of Christ.

However, the book does give the reader a passion to pray. While I could read the book and see the errors I also sensed the hunger to pray building up. Without a doubt, Ed Silvoso writes with a passion for prayer and for evangelism. He is accurate to see these as going hand in hand (Matthew 9:38; Luke 10:2; Acts 1:8, 14; 2:38, 41-42; 12:5; 16:13-15; Romans 12:12; Colossians 4:2-6).

I would urge the reader to purchase this book and read it for yourself. I agree that there are errors in Silvoso's theology in that he holds to terroritorial spirits, believes in mass evangelism through altar calls and the sinner's prayer, is theologically lacking in its substance, confuses experience with Christ as a point of unity, and has an unbiblical view of the authority of Satan, nonetheless the book does inspire one to pray with fire and faith in Jesus.

Book dishonors God and is not Biblically accurate.  Dec 5, 2003
The author dishonors God and is Biblically inaccurate when he describes God as not having control of what happened on earth from the time Adam sinned to the time Jesus was crucified.

He claims that when God created Adam, he made Adam master of the entire earth. However, the "ownership" of earth passed to Satan when Adam sinned. Once Satan had ownership, God was left looking from the outside without being able to influence events on earth. According to Ed Silvoso, God was no longer in charge of his creation and was unable to challenge Satan in things related to man and earth. God was only able to regain control of earth when Jesus was crucified.

In the Bible it is very clear that God had control of events throughout all history. Two examples come to mind. In the book of Job, Satan had to obtain direct and specific permission from God before doing anything to Job and Moses led Israel out of Egypt under the direct control of God.

The book is dangerously vague as to which denominations should be allowed to join in your prayer evangelism. Should you allow Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, etc? To which denominations or religions whould you lend your efforts? Who will take care of the new sheep?

The author also fails to discuss the dangers of compromise. In order to bring all the denominations of a city as one in prayer you have to be careful not to compromise your faith and your Biblical beliefs.

Before reading this or any other religious book, you need to be very familiar with the Bible and stand in sound doctrine. This book does not stand in sound Biblical doctrine.

Ed's Book  Oct 1, 2002
Very anointed by the HOly Spirit. When I read it
the Spirit of God comes upon me. I highly recommend
this book to everyone.

Ed is God's servant.

A Motivational Book  Sep 30, 2000
This is a book by a practitioner of missions and evangelism. Ed. Silvoso wrote this book from his own experience of reaching the cities. This book has provided practical strategy as well as biblical insight for those who want their cities to be transformed with multitudes turning to the Lord.

There is no dichotomy between prayer and evangelism. The one who prays cannot run away from the evangelistic task of reaching the people for Christ. And the one who evangelizes cannot do so without being a praying person. Both prayer and evangelism are closely knitted together that prayer evangelism is the biblical strategy provided for leading the pre-believers and seekers into the Kingdom of God.

I commend this book to every Christian who wants to be a partner in gathering the Lord's harvest. And those who make an attempt to read it thoroughly and thoghtfully are likely motivated to look at the vast harvest field with renewed insight.
