 | Wonderful for Children! Mar 19, 2010 |
My nearly 5 year old son is in love with this book. He is constantly pulling it out to identify local birds outside. He carries it everywhere with him and even sleeps with this book.
I love the large, full page pictures (...well, as big as the pages are). They pictures are clear and bright and the information is handy and interesting. I especially like that the book even lists alternate names the birds are known by and their habits.
Only problem is, it gets so much use from our little one that we have to buy a new one every 1 or 2 years. But that's ok, because my son likes to take the pages that fall out and hang them on his wall... yes, he loves them that much. | | | | Not Much Information Here Jul 27, 2009 |
I don't know why I didn't read the details more carefully, but when I saw "Audubon" I was was expecting something a lot better than this.
While somewhat helpful in identifying a few flowers, I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is serious about flower identification. I do a lot of flower photography and was hoping to identify some of the species with which I am unfamiliar....this book was pretty much useless in that regard.
Much wiser to spend the few extra dollars for the "real" Audubon guide to wildflowers. | | | | Birdwatching can be fun Feb 23, 2009 |
| This is a great book for looking up pictures and facts on the birds that frequent your yard. | | | | Nice pictures, but not overly useful Oct 27, 2007 |
| Too small to be very useful - one picture of each bird does not give enough points to accurately identify the species, at least for a novice. Limited entries, most birds in my backyard are not in the book. | | | | Useful little book for bird identification Sep 20, 2006 |
This book features 80 of the more common birds that you'll find in North America. There is a nice color photo of every bird, as well as a map that shows where the bird lives.
The authors of the book also devoted a full paragraph to describing some interesting facts about each bird. There is also a detailed description of each bird's appearance, voice, and habitat. A written description of each bird's range helps supplement the maps.
This is a great book for beginning bird watchers, or anyone who enjoys the outdoors. | | | Write your own review about National Audubon Society Pocket Guide to Familiar Birds: Eastern Region: Eastern
