Item Description...
A moving image of Christ with His cross takes your breath away in the Road To The Cross. This intensely painted image of Jesus is printed on canvas. It measures a neat 10 inches by 10 inches.
The suffering Jesus went through before He was crucified is well known but this image tells it all in a heartrending image.
The painting shows Jesus on His knees, looking as if just about to rise with His heavy wooden cross. The feeling of exhaustion and pain is well captured by the artist's brushstrokes. The signs of suffering are evident in the blood spilled onto His white robe, His back bleeding with gashes and His head crowned in sharp thorns.
You can see crimson blood stains on the rough hewn floor. The struggle of our Lord is heartbreaking as He tries to bear the burden of all our sins.
One of the customer reviews of the original painting says that the fact that the face is not seen in the canvas is the most striking aspect of the image. It doesn't matter who paints or draws the face, it is just not possible to paint the glorious face of Jesus and do it justice....'
The print is mounted in gallery-wrapped canvas. That means no visible staples or nails that always seem to detract from the painting. The edges of the print are painted too, giving it a beautiful continuity.
More about the Artist
This print is from a beautiful painting done by talented artist and illustrator, Brian Jekel. Born in Wisconsin in 1951 and raised in Minnesota, Jekel was an art enthusiast right from his childhood. From the Rocky Mountain School of Arts, he joined the Pensacola Christian College in 1981 to teach budding artists commercial and fine art.
He has created over 1200 illustrations of the Bible for his college's publishing company. He says, "the life of Christ has been the most humbling and sometimes burdensome experience. There are times when you can feel the weight of it all."
