Product Description

The story of God written in intimate love letters just for you.

Dr. Larry Crabb knows that if we could see the larger story of God and humanity, our world would never be the same. That story is found in large part in the sixty-six letters of the Bible.

Written in a conversational first person, as if God is speaking directly to us, Dr. Crabb looks at each individual book in scripture and boils it down to a one- or two-sentence message to us from that particular book. He then unpacks each sentence in a short chapter answering the question, What does God want me to hear from this love letter? The book's epilogue then fits all sixty-six pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together into one coherent paragraph and reveals the beautiful picture of what God has been about since the creation of the world. Far from being comprehensive, this is a personal approach to helping readers know God and his great love for them, his message for all mankind, and how their lives fit into His larger story.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
66 Love Letters  Jun 8, 2010

The entire concept of this book was intriguing to me. I wasn't quite sure how Crabb would pull off putting the actual voice of God into a book that's supposed to help us understand each Biblical book in a more profound way. I mean, writing God's voice...what someone thinks our Creator might say is a huge task and I wasn't entirely sure anyone could pull that off. Even after reading this and enjoying it and learning from it, I'm still not sure that the feat of putting words in God's mouth, hypothetical as they may be, can be successfully conquered by anyone.

Though Crabb certainly does bring a whole lot of insight into each book of the Bible, is it real insight or just what we want things to mean? Isn't he really just writing what his opinion is regarding interpretation? The answer to that is yes...he is just giving his opinion. And once I got over that hurtle and started using each chapter as a jumping off point for my own level of understanding, my read went much smoother and I found myself delving a lot deeper into my Bible reading than I had before. It took a little coaxing of my mind, but I really do feel that Crabb allowed my thinking to be deep and meaningful...more than with previous Bible study teachers.

You shouldn't necessarily read the book from cover to cover without stopping, but rather use it in conjunction with daily Bible readings or even do as I did and read the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation with this to accompany you. I wouldn't recommend skipping around, as each "letter" builds on the last. And the Epilogue kinda mashes it all together in a readable synopsis. After having gone through it all once, I'll now use it as a reference source.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5
It takes a little getting used to, but it's definitely a helpful and unique manner of Biblical study. Frank conversations, bluntness, and easy to read format.

66 Love Letters  Jun 8, 2010
From God to You: 66 Love Letters:A Conversation with God that Invites you into His Story by Dr. Larry Crabb arrived a few months ago in my mailbox.

I was rather excited to see this book because I had anticipated the volumes of which this book would speak to me. I was going to finally understand a little better from Gods point of view each book of the Bible and maybe understand my life a little better.

From the back of the book...

In 66 Love Letters Larry Crabb offers a fresh, relational look at Scripture:

"When you finish reading my first love letter to you, I want you to realize that I never underestimated how thoroughly you'd mess up your life or how painfully you would struggle and suffer, and I don't want you to underestimate your failures or struggles either. They're all part of the story I'm telling.

"But neither have I underestimated my determination or ability to enter the mess you've made and the pain you feel and turn everything around. I can, and I will, make everything good again. Never underestimate me."

The book seemed so inviting, so ready to answer all my questions and yet I couldn't finish the book. I picked the book up time and time again. I tried to read through the book as one should starting at the beginning but without avail the book began to burden me.

The book was more like a question and answer session rather than a format for reading for pleasure. The format for me was a hindrance rather than an easy read.

I am not saying the content wasn't good because what I did read was not mind blowing but it was rich. Dr. Larry Crabb spent a great deal of time and put forth so much effort for others to benefit from this book. However, I am not the majority who can read this book and follow in it's formatting.

I would love to say that this was a wonderful, enriching, enlightening and all around great book but I can not say that with complete honesty. I have put this review off for months because I did not think it was fair to the author but try as I might I can not get myself to read through this book.

Maybe your experience will be better and someone out there can give a complete review on the book in its entirety, however, I am unable to give a complete review on the entirety of the books content because I simply could not get into the format of this book.

A sweet Book  Jun 4, 2010
A sweet book that covers every book in the bible. Each book is explained in terms of a love letter from God. Good insight into what each book means as an overall picture. Quite educational in a broad sense. Would get the most out of it if you read the book of the bible along with it.

66 love Letters- A review  May 26, 2010
In 66 Love Letters, Larry Crabb embarks on a conversational journey through all 66 books of the Bible. In an unusual style, Crabb intertwines his struggles with living the Christian life with responses being communicated from God in the Bible. I don't usually take a long time to read a book, but this one took me several months. I discovered in the early pages that if I was going to benefit from this book, I would have to take it slow. Once I was comfortable with the alternating from Crabb's voice then to God's, I was able to move at a more rapid pace. One of the major truths communicated in the book was how God never promises an easy or comfortable earthly life for His people. In fact, suffering and pain are more common for those choosing the narrow road.
I was weighed down at times over this recurring theme, but God kept reminding me to trust Him for what is to come and hope found its way in. I appreciated being pointed to some golden passages in the Bible that are easily missed in some of the least-read books. I recommend this book, but not if you want a quick read or if you want to hear how God wants you to live a comfortable pain-free life. Here is the final paragraph to give you a taste of God's 66 Love Letters to you:

"Trust Me. Things are not as they seem. My Son is right now bringing His kingdom to earth. The collision of kingdoms, the resistance of everything opposed to My plan, is the source of all the upheaval in the world. My Son will judge severely. The forces of evil will be destroyed. And He will bless abundantly. My story is about to end in the eternal day of a new way to live in a new world, Can you hear the music? The party is underway. It won't be long till My Son makes everything new. And then you'll really dance!"

Inspiring book  May 23, 2010
Larry starts with the premise that God's Word is a "love letter" to His children. From this perspective, he condenses the message of each book of the Bible as if it is message from God to us. He begins each book of Scripture with a "what God wants us to know" section. This book is a powerful means for us to understand the entire message and the different themes of the Bible. The book's purpose is not to be source for reference, but as a source of inspiration; a book that encourages us to understand just how personal a God we have. The book ends with a 66-paragraph composite of the entire message of the Bible; quite a feat. I highly recommend this book since I have learned at a much deeper level how great and loving God is!
