Item Description... Overview Sarah's faith is tested after learning disturbing secrets about her deceased husband, and she feels pressure to get remarried in order to ensure stability for her newborn twins.
Publishers Description Take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where you'll meet the women of the Kauffman Amish Bakery in Lancaster County. As each woman's story unfolds, you will share in her heartaches, trials, joys, dreams ... and secrets. You'll discover how the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle can clash with the 'English' way of life---and the decisions and consequences that follow. Most importantly, you will be encouraged by the hope and faith of these women, and the importance they place on their families. In A Promise of Hope, the second installment in the Kauffman Amish Bakery series, bestselling author Amy Clipston continues to unfold the tensions, loves, and faith of the inhabitants of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, and the family bakery that serves as an anchor point for the series. When Sarah Troyer tragically loses her husband Peter, she is left to raise infant twins alone. Overwhelmed and grieving, she lives with her parents in the Amish community of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania. Sarah is taken completely by surprise when a stranger arrives claiming connections to Peter's past---Peter had told her he was an orphan with no family. From Luke, she learns her husband hid a secret life, one with ramifications that will change her own. Sarah's family, concerned for her and the future of her twins, encourages her to marry again. It should make sense ... but Sarah's heart says no. She feels trapped. Should she marry a man she doesn't love? Or discover if her growing interest in Luke can be trusted? A Promise of Hope is filled with surprising twists that will grip you to the very last words. |

 | Good book Jun 10, 2010 |
| Amy Clipston has done it again, this was a very good book. The only negative I noticed was there was too much care paid to Sarah, someone always asking if she was alright. To me it went a bit overboard but it might just be me. The story line was good, her writing is great and I really enjoyed the book. Try it, I bet you will too! BJ | | | | Absolutely Brilliant! | Amy has done it again! I couldn't put this book down, just like the first one! I am hooked on Amy's books! Can't wait for the next one. Thank you Amy! | | | | Not a fan. May 2, 2010 |
I decided that now that my family is raised I finally had the time to start reading books. I thought this book sounded interesting and find the Amish lifestyle interesting also. The book is about Sarah Rose Troyer an Amish young lady who lost her husband Peter in a fire shortly after discovering that she was pregnant. Then she finds out that her husband had a life before her that she never new about. Luke comes to town to find out why Peter hasn't been heard from in awhile only to discover that he had been killed in the fire. I guess the book was interesting, but, I felt like the author was trying to drag the story out just to fill the pages. She kept repeating the same things over and over until I could guess what she was going to say. Such as "she wiped her hands on her apron" or "She rubber her finger on the side of the glass" or "Sarah's hot face" and I became quite annoyed at the repeated times someone asked Sarah how she was doing and did she want to talk. I couldn't believe the author didn't realize how often she repeated herself. All in all it was an ok book, but I hope to pick a better author next time. Or maybe now that I have time on my hands, I will start writing books! | | | | A Promise of Hope Apr 17, 2010 |
Sarah Rose Troyer is mourning the death of her beloved husband, Peter, and expecting a baby. She doesn't know how she'll manage to be a single mother, and is even more upset when an ultrasound reveals she's actually having twins.
Luke Troyer makes his home in Ohio, but when a family friend comes into the shop claiming she hasn't heard from him in a while, Luke is concerned. He agrees to go to Pennsylvania to search for Peter.
When Luke arrives in Bird-in-Hand he discovers that Peter is dead, but Peter's extended family is quick to take him in. Luke quickly develops feelings for the very pregnant Sarah Rose, but knows she's in mourning...plus she is struggling with having discovered that her husband has lied to her all along. What will it take for Sarah ever be able to trust a man again?
A PROMISE OF HOPE is book two in Ms. Clipston's Kauffman Amish Bakery series by Ms. Clipston, but it easily stands alone. I enjoyed reading the book, but the premise of the story did bother me a bit. Luke lost a lot of respect with me by the way he handled certain situations.
I enjoyed getting to know the close Kauffman family and Luke, and learning about Peter's secrets, and I'm looking forward to the third book in this series. If you like Amish stories, then A PROMISE OF HOPE is a book that you'll want to consider.
| | | | a romance novel Apr 14, 2010 |
I didn't think the first novel in this series was a romance, but this one was just that disguised as Amish. He thinks her being tongue tied means she hates him, she figures her angry outburst will make him hate her. The stereotypical misunderstandings and pride and lust. Bleh. I was expecting better.
