Given how massive the Old Testament is, I wasn't sure it would be possible to get much out of a six-week study. This book proved me wrong. The study breaks the OT into massive chunks: Garden of Eden, Law, Patriarch, Prophets, Kings, Exile. While each week could have become a 12-week study on its own, the guide (and our own personal research) gave each person in my Bible study a surprising amount of insight. Everyone who participated in this study was pleasantly surprised by all that we learned in such a condensed study. The biggest negative was that the chapter on the Exile was surprisingly light and we supplemented with outside teaching.
This book accomplished exactly what we hoped it would and gave us a solid grasp of the Old Testament happenings. It shed light on areas many of us knew nothing about and allowed us to connect some spiritual dots between the OT and NT. Our Bible study gives this study guide a thumbs up. We liked it so much that four other Bible studies in my church are using this book with their groups.
As an aside...We also purchased The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation. It's a 2-sided, full color, fold-out, pictorial display of biblical history from Creation through Jesus' resurrection. Excellent resource! | | |  | Crash Course in Old Testament Jun 29, 2009 |
