Item Description... Overview The former Survivor cast member details the importance of faith in God throughout his life, from his first job as a nightclub gofer to the death of a close friend.
Publishers Description
For listeners who loved Blue Like Jazz comes inspiration and advice from Survivor contestant and Christian speaker Austin Carty. Figuring out who you want to be in life is never easy. In High Points and Lows, Austin Carty traces his own stumbling journey toward adulthood and true faith, drawing on lessons from pop culture and Christianity. In these funny and moving essays that address faith, goals, and vocation, Carty offers an uplifting messsage for religious and secular audiences alike. By turns amusing and endearing, Carty's essays explore everything from misguided evangelicals who treat salvation as a cottage industry to the real danger of cheating in school - everyone will think you're brilliant and then you've got a real problem. Whether he is failing miserably at his first real job as a nightclub gofer, explaining how Saved by the Bell has ruined our youth, or struggling to come to terms with the death of a beloved friend, Carty demonstrates how finding the courage to be ourselves is the best way to forge a genuine connection with friends, family, and God. |

| When you read this book, it's evident that it comes from Austin's heart. It's a perfect book for young adults to read who are questioning their relationship with God. It's a perfect book for adults to read who are questioning their relationship with God. And, it's even a perfect book for young adults and adults to read who are not questioning their relationship with God. I encourage you to read it twice. Looking forward to his next book. | | | | Loved High Points and Lows!!!!! Apr 2, 2010 |
| I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed it so much, when I finished it, I flipped to the beginning and read it again. There were so many little snippets of wisdom, I was afraid I'd missed one and wanted to make sure I let them all sink in. I was amazed at Austin's honesty and frankness about his faith, and I loved his stories about getting dumped by his first sweetheart. I hope he writes more books about his journey through life! | | | | A terrific surprise of a book! Mar 18, 2010 |
With a healthy dose of wit and a refreshingly honest look at faith, Austin Carty has written a collection of delightful essays that, in the end, were far more than I imagined they'd be when I initially opened the book. Creatively executed, insightful, and full of inspiration, each essay is a little gem all by itself. As Carthy shared his journey, I was immediately struck by his humor and tremendous openness; it was as if we were sitting on a shady park bench together, just talking and laughing about the complexities of life.
It matters not where your spirituality or religious beliefs may be, this book is a treasure that I enthusiastically recommend. Bravo, Mr. Carty!

What a fantastic, well-written book! Austin simplified his thoughts and experiences in a conversational manner that left me laughing out loud while thinking about my life at the same time. If you're looking for a fresh perspective on religion and pop culture then this a great place to start.
Favorite essay..."On Being Dumped"...Fantastic! | | | | Great book with insights into life and laughs. Feb 16, 2010 |
| The book is amazing. I started reading it yesterday and finished it this morning which is pretty amazing for me since I'm a slow reader. I think it is awesome that Austin is so open and honest with his life experiences and his faith. He is comfortable with his relationship with Jesus and he makes it seem like common sense to believe and have faith. I hope there are many people that are able to read this book and see what a great witness Austin is. As a christian man, it provided me with some great insights and laughts. | | | Write your own review about Bktrax-Disc-High Points And Lows (Unabrdg) (3 CD)
