 | A Good Supplement Apr 4, 2010 |
I have worked at an after school program for over 10 years, and Little Critter has been a staple. Every two pages contain one story and one worksheet, including reading questions, grammar, spelling, etc.
Recently, I bought newer editions, and they have been improved hugely. Previously, although the stories were interesting and fun for the kids to read, the questions were too simple and didn't allow the kids to answer more creatively. The newer books have many open ended questions which really lets you check for grammar, understanding, and creativity.
I would recommend these books for parents who want a little extra reading comprehension. I would say that all Spectrum Reading books are not grade exact. For example, the second grade level for this workbook is more like mid level first grader, so these books would be a good review during summer break for incoming second graders. | | | | Well-rounded Jul 16, 2009 |
| This book continues the Spectrum series' tradition of excellence. The lessons include both fiction and nonfiction, with well thought-out questions and exercises following each page of text. Like all Spectrum titles, the pedagogy of this book is very logical, and doesn't seem haphazard in the way that some other workbooks can. Again, I would like to see a little more creativity/humor in the artwork, ala Brain Quest or School Zone, but it's a minor complaint... | | | | The best of both worlds Jul 16, 2009 |
| I am a big fan of Spectrum Workbooks, but often wish that they would give their illustrators a little more creative freedom. This book answers that desire by using the whimsical artwork--and stories, of course--of Mercer Mayer. A note to parents and teachers: although each set of facing pages is a new lesson, the story arc continues; which means that this book really works best in sequence, without too long a gap between readings. | | | | Great Workbook Nov 22, 2008 |
| This is a great workbook. My daughter says it is harder than the 1st grade reading, which is what I wanted to hear. She enjoys the stories in it as well and it does teach comprehension, which is great! | | | | Wonderful Teaching Tool Sep 27, 2008 |
| This book is great for people that are homeschool or for people that want there children to have a helping tool at home. I homeschool my 7 year old son, he is in 2nd grade and this has been a great teaching tool. It teaches him to listen to the story's and pay attention, because once they are done with there story, there is a page for them to do on each story. | | | Write your own review about Spectrum Reading, Grade 2
