Item Description... The book of Revelation contains passages of great beauty and comfort, as well as passages that strike the casual reader as bizarre, bewildering, and sometimes frightening. How are readers today to discern God's message in this peculiar part of the Bible? Noted biblical scholar Bruce M. Metzger presents solid scholarship in a nonacademic style. The book includes a list of resources for further study and a study guide for 8-13 sessions. Ideal for use in personal or group study. The video material is now available on DVD. The Planning Kit includes one Leader's Guide, one copy of the book, and a DVD featuring brief segments by Dr. Metzger for each of 8 sessions (expandable to 13 sessions). Each video segment is 13-17 minutes in length. |

| We are here in the heart of Dispensationalism, from "Dallas Seminary" and it was easy to relate to it. | | | | Metzger Makes Sense! Feb 7, 2007 |
Are you intimidated by the book of Revelation? Are you confused by the many views people hold about this amazing book? Looking for a book that will help you understand what John saw and what his readers would have understood in the late first-century? If you are, then this book is for you.
Metzger makes sense of this special book we call Revelation. From the beginning Metzger claims that this book has been mistreated by two extreme views: those who concentrate all of their study on this one book and those who are fearful to even attempt to read and interpret it. Many have carelessly ignored the literary genre in which it was written... that being apocalyptic literature.
This little book works much like a commentary. It is easy to read as it is primarily a guide to understanding the "Code" or symbols John uses in this type of literature. I highly recommend this book to those who are concerned with the historical-grammatical approach to studying and interpreting the Scriptures. It is a wonderful book to use in a small Bible study group. (You can also purchase a video and a leaders guide) I have used this in a small group. My class loved it!
It is no secret that Metzger's book is for the common man. Meaning: those who have not spent their entire lives at school, do not have knowledge of Greek, nor have had the opportunity to study theology in an educational institution. Metzger has the common man in mind. I have had the privilege to do these things... yet I find this book to be a great little resource when doing introductory study on the book of Revelation.
There are plenty of books on the market for those who want to further explore the first-century world of John to our modern day. This book is for those who want a historical approach to the book. It is plain and simple. And this is what Metzger wanted to accomplish. Get this book and learn of the great hope that Revelation presents to those who are called "the overcomers!"

Hank Hanegraff is a blatant replacement theologian where the nation of Israel is concerned. He is further from the truth where prophecy is concerned than most groups, to include pretribulationists. Indeed, his "scholarship" is no scholarship at all; it is pure propaganda.... To see real scholarship, get Tim Cohen's materials (see below):
Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and others in the Pre-Trib circle, such as Ed Hindson, Tommy Ice, Chuck Missler, Zola Levitt, Thomas McCall, John Hagee, Grant Jeffrey, Marlin Maddox, Perry Stone, Texe Marrs, John Walvoord (deceased), etc., continue to put forth the same deceptions that Hal Lindsey popularized decades ago. The notion of a pre-tribulation rapture is foreign to scripture, it is foreign to the teachings of the early Church, and it is grooming the Church for destruction through ignorance and lack of preparation for what is really coming. These men are novices and not prophecy "experts" or "scholars" by any stretch of the imagination; they are those who tickle the ears of gullible Christians. Why continue to be deceived? Tim Cohen, in his excellent book, "The AntiChrist and a Cup of Tea," provides biblically sound and testable evidence to show that the coming AntiChrist is known NOW. Not only that, the same author (Tim Cohen) has now put out the strongest presentation on the whole issue of the rapture EVER offered to the saints of God in Christ: "The REAL Rapture". If you really want to know the truth about the timing of the coming rapture, then you need to hear Tim Cohen's "The REAL Rapture" (based on a volume in his forthcoming "Messiah, History, and the Tribulation Period" series (see Prophecy House's site for details on these items, which are also available via this site). | | | | Hoped more from this book Jun 21, 2006 |
| I bought this book and read it in less than a week, if you have studied even a little bit about the Book of Revelation this is not the book for you. Everything I read I had already learned by just going to Sunday school. It is very basic, and I don't agree with some of the statements the author makes. This book didn't break any code at least for me. | | | | Good book... where's the video? Aug 15, 2005 |
| This book works well as a study guide for groups wanting to study Revalations. It's important to use the Bible in conjunction with this book. Breaking The Code is more of a study guide than a book. The suggested lesson plans in the back of the book are helpful, but reference a companion video which I could not locate. As with all books such as this: if you are looking for the book to speak to you, it won't. But, hopefully while reading it, God will. | | | Write your own review about Breaking the Code - Participant's Book: Understanding the Book of Revelation
