Item Description...
Ancient language expert Samantha Yale returns to translate a new batch of scrolls written by the fallen angel from "Lucifer's Flood." Samantha Yale has taken on a daunting translation project. A set of scrolls, delivered by a man she knows nothing about, tells a fascinating and frightening tale of what went on behind the scenes of biblical history. What is even more incredible is who is telling the tale--a fallen angel who immediately regretted his decision to side with Lucifer. In book three of The Reluctant Demon Diaries series, we find that the mysterious Wonk Eman has disappeared. Fearing the remaining scrolls may be lost forever, Samantha is determined to find him. Her search leads her an old church where she finds Wonk and convinces him that he must overcome his fear and allow her to examine the remaining scrolls. This new volume of writings begins with the time of the judges over Israel as the nameless angel continues to watch and report to Satan on the progress of humanity as God leads them forward through the reign of King David.

 | 3rd in Reluctant Demon series makes the Old Testament new again May 23, 2010 |
The King by Linda Rios Brook is the third book in the Reluctant Demon series. Samantha Yale has received another series of scrolls for translation from the mysterious source, Wonk Eman. He warns her that no one else must see or know about the scrolls, but forces are searching for both the scrolls, and Dr. Yale. Her translation picks up the continued story of an unnamed demon who works for Satan observing the humans and reporting back to the fallen angel about their doings. This demon is putting together his case to present to God as to why he should be allowed to return to Heaven, having no desire to continue in slavery to Satan, he uses his observations about the humans to attempt to understand God himself. The book covers the Old Testament books of Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel with the time of the judges and the Saul and David's kingships. Brook has created one of the most unique works of biblical fiction on the market. Much of the story comes directly from the Bible, but Brook inserts a bit of humor with the demon as narrator. He asks the same questions that readers have been wondering about for millenia, and inserts a sense of immediacy to each story because of his presence. She makes these age old stories very real and understandable for today's reader, while cautiously touching on deeper topics as they relate to the tale. I truly enjoy this series, because Brook gives new insight to stories I've heard my entire life, plus the framing story is really beginning to ratchet up the tension. The Reluctant Demon series should have strong appeal to both young adults and older readers. | | | | The King (Reluctant Demon Diaries Series) May 23, 2010 |
| If you like the Screwtape Letters then you will love the Reluctant Demon Diaries Series. The Series has me asking "I wonder if that really happened" and then I grab my Bible and look it up and there it is in black and white, sometimes RED. I don't want to write to much or it will give away so much in the books. I can't wait until the next one comes out!! | | | | A Well-Written Fiction Based on Old Testament Truth May 20, 2010 |
I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to Linda Rios Brook and her publisher for sending me a copy of "The King" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
"The King" by Linda Rios Brook is the third novel in the Reluctant Demon Diaries series. Once again, Samantha Yale is on the job translating scrolls covered in the writing of ancient languages. This time, the reader is taken on a journey that leads to a fascinating look beginning with the times of the judges to Israel's cry to God to make them like other nations and give them a king and right through to the reign of King David, Israel's most well-known ruler. And I am blown away by the cliffhanger!
I truly enjoy the uber-creative perspective used by the author to make the events of scripture come alive for the reader, but I am challenged by it at the same time. It is largely the only issue I have with these novels because I find myself having to actively remember that there is no such thing as a reluctant demon! I do understand the employment of such a character to create the desired point of view of this novel, but I need to caution other readers that the reluctant demon character is absolute fiction. | | | | I love the Reluctant Demon Series Apr 21, 2010 |
I just finished the King and it is great.
Besides taking a walk through the Old testament, and the life of David specifically in this book, with the perspective of the scholarly Demon , the series gives us a few mysteries of its own.
Is he, (Wonk or Know name?), who gave the scrolls to the "professor", the actual author of the scrolls? Probably!!
Who is Og's ( the Nephilim king's) modern day stooge and will he find Wonk before the scrolls are translated in their entirety?
And lastly, Who or what is Samantha Yale? Without giving too much away, we suspect she is more than she seems, but she doesn't know a lot in that she suspects on, flimsy reasoning, that the scrolls are forgeries ( when they obviously are not, in the books of course) or that they are stolen.
What will become of the Demon author who wants so desperately to be reunited with God? He keeps trying on his merits and arguments to himself, planning his case while keeping Satan in the dark. But we know and in this book the Demon is starting to figure out , it is not by anything a created being does on his own merits that achieves heaven for us, not even Moses or Abraham, who we see in the previous books. It is by the sacrificial act of the Redeemer, the Messiah, only hinted at in this book. The blood of the Lamb , shed for many.
I can't wait for the next one. The Redeemer is the title , I believe.
