Product Description
"A great deal of confusion exists today as to what pastors are to be," Lawrence writes. "Are they chaplains, CEO's, preachers, managers, or counselors? Paul gave us the answer long ago: They are to be equippers, disciple-makers." Just as the great artist Michelangelo took a chipped and flawed piece of marble and transformed it into a masterful sculpture of David, so does a pastor with his flock. "This is pastoring", writes Lawrence, "serving as sculptors of souls."

 | A high-integrity look at pastoring in the traditional church Mar 11, 2008 |
Lawrence is a prof at Dallas Seminary and leads a Leadership Institute there. He writes this book from long experience in leadership training and pastoring churches. He describes the committments of a biblical leader in clear and convicting terms. I think any leader would benefit from reading this wholesome book. His principles apply to all types of leadership roles, although he speaks specifically from a traditional perspective, involving a pastor and his board.
Lawrence argues that "the leader must stand at the crossroads of competence and character and choose for Jesus. This way lies ministry effectiveness." -Dennis McCallum, author Organic Disciplemaking: How to promote Christian leadership development through personal relationships, biblical discipleship, mentoring, and Christian community | | | | A good book for every pastor Jul 22, 2007 |
| Dr. Lawrence's book is exceptionally practical and well rounded. He speaks from experience, clarity, and graceful authority. He starts where pastoring needs to, with personal character and motivation, but rather than handle it in a theoretical or preachy style, he gets right down to issues in a very engaging manner. I found every topic to be necessary. I have been a ministry leader, an elder and a pastor with experience in more than one church and Christian parachurch organization. My opinion is that every new pastor should read this right away and that seasoned pastors could use it as a good checkup. The book has more of a conversational feel than a textbook. It was an easy read, but quite challenging. | | | | A great book for young pastors Jan 25, 2001 |
| After reading what pastoring was all about I felt that the way most pastors are running the church today is totally out of order. We are not to be lord's over God's heritage, but servants to God's people. Not bosses, CEOs, not employers, but servants....this is a great book! | | | Write your own review about Effective Pastoring Giving Vision, Direction, And Care To Your Church
