Item Description... The original woodcuts from the Cologne Bible (1479) taught Bible stories soon after printing began, and, at the same time, became favorites for coloring. The Creation of Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah's Ark, The Tower of Babel, Abraham and Isaac, and Moses and the Burning Bush are only a few of the 46 stories depicted in this collection. |

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | A Cut Above Mar 14, 2008 |
I must disagree with the other two reviewers here.
My child has several of Dover's wonderful coloring books, including ones with enlarged woodcuts from the middle ages, and she loves them!
While an adult might have a little trouble with smaller details in these books, children's sharp eyes see them just fine. My daughter gets a kick out of all the little things she finds in the medieval scenes and in noticing how different the style and approach to art was back then.
If your child's age or personality dictates she color exactly within the lines, she can use colored pencils instead of crayons (though with kids under 8 this probably won't be necessary).
All of Dover's coloring books promote knowledge and cultural literacy, including this one. Furthermore, the quality of the paper and illustrations show a wonderful respect for young artists that is pretty well absent from other publishers' coloring books.
What it comes down to is this: your child hears loud and clear what you communicate in your choice of books, games and toys. If you value quality, so will your child. If you appreciate historical art, so will your child.
If you do value these things, you cannot go wrong with Dover coloring books.

| This book is for adults who would like to see Middle Age art. The pictures remind me of stain glass pictures I saw in European Cathedrals, but have even more fine details. You would need a magnifying glass, skill, and an fantastic amount of time to color the book. Moses has horns, women are topless, the ancient text in pictures is not legible by children. The last picture includes a scene from an apocryphal book (Bel and the Dragon). I rate it low because it is not advertised clearly and thus may pull in those looking for a children's Sunday School book. | | | | Don't let the fact that it's a 'coloring book' fool you Apr 25, 2003 |
| This coloring book is not for children. This is why I rated it so low. This is basically a set of stories from the Bible and coloring pages from a Bible printed in 1479 in Germany. It would take a very patient adult to give credit to the page by coloring it. If you are looking for Bible Stories with illustrations for adults then this is a fine book. If you are looking for Bible stories that you can read to children and you, the adult are going to color the page, this is fine as well. But it really doesn't work well for children. | | | Write your own review about Bible Stories Coloring Book (Colouring Books)
